Abstract

An article comprising: (i) a handheld device including (a) a housing, (b) a powered element within the housing: (ii) a battery pack, wherein the handheld device is connected by an external cable to a functional system, wherein the battery pack is attached to the external cable, and wherein the battery pack supplies power to the powered element.

Claims

1. An article comprising:

i. a handheld device including

(a) a housing,

(b) a powered element within the housing,

ii. a battery pack,

wherein the handheld device is connected by an external cable to a functional system,

wherein the battery pack is attached to the external cable, and

wherein the battery pack supplies power to the powered element.

2. An article according to claim 1, wherein the powered element is a motor.

3. An article according to claim 1, wherein the functional system is a console.

4. An article according to claim 1, wherein the handheld device is an electrosurgical medical device.

5. An article according to claim 2, wherein the electrosurgical medical device is a debrider.

6. An article according to claim 3, wherein the console houses a generator, and

wherein the external cable contains battery lead wires and electrosurgical lead wires.

7. An article according to claim 6, wherein a segment of the external cable connects the battery pack to a plug interfacing with the generator.

8. An article according to claim 6, wherein the electrosurgical medical device has at least one electrode, and

wherein the generator supplies power to the at least one electrode.

9. An article according to claim 2, wherein the electrosurgical medical device has at least one inner blade coupled to the motor.

10. An article according to claim 9, wherein the motor powers the inner blade.

11. An article according to claim 3, wherein a segment of the external cable is an irrigation line and wherein the console houses an irrigation system.

12. An article according to claim 1, wherein the battery pack is attached to a segment of the external cable connecting the housing to the console.

13. An article according to claim 1, wherein electricity is being transmitted via battery lead wires to the powered element.

14. An article according to claim 1, wherein the battery pack is wired to the external cable.

15. An article according to claim 1, wherein the powered element is a motor and the housing has a motor power switch.
