1. A method for determining suitable locations for placement of a flight plan waypoint for an aircraft within a volume of space, the method comprising:
- identifying a first boundary within the volume of space based on a terrain database;
identifying a second boundary within the volume of space based on a performance envelope for the aircraft;
defining a reduced volume of the volume of space between the first and second boundaries; and
analyzing the reduced volume of the volume of space for suitable waypoint locations according to predetermined suitability criteria.

8. A method for determining suitable locations for placement of a flight plan waypoint for an aircraft within a volume of space, the method comprising:
-
reducing the volume of space for analysis by removing impossible to fly portions of the volume of space based on a terrain database and a performance envelope of the aircraft to define a reduced volume of space; reducing the reduced volume of space for analysis by removing undesirable to fly portions of the reduced volume of space to define an acceptable volume of space; and analyzing the acceptable volume of the volume of space for suitable waypoint locations according to predetermined suitability criteria. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12)
