Abstract

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for performing a synchronization of data. These mechanisms and methods for performing a synchronization of data can enable a more efficient synchronization, time and resource savings, an enhanced user experience, etc.

Claims

1. A computer program product, comprising a non-transitory computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, the computer readable program code adapted to be executed to implement a method for performing a synchronization of data, the method comprising:

identifying a client and a server of a system;

determining that a user has successfully logged into an application of the client; and

performing a synchronization of data associated with the application between the client and the server.

2. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the application of the client includes an application that is installed within the client.

3. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the data includes data stored at one or more of the client and server that is used by the application.

4. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the data includes one or more of object data, detail data, and metadata.

5. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the synchronization is performed in response to a determination that the user has successfully logged into the application of the client.

6. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein performing the synchronization includes determining whether a user has logged into the application for the first time,

7. The computer program product of claim 6, wherein if it is determined that the user has logged into the application for the first time, then one or more elements of metadata are retrieved from the server and stored at a local cache of the client.

8. The computer program product of claim 7, wherein a local database is initialized within the client once the elements of metadata are fetched and cached at the client.

9. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein a full synchronization occurs between the client and the server once the database is initialized.

10. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein performing the synchronization includes determining whether a user has previously logged in to the application of the client.

11. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein if it is determined that the user has previously logged into the application, all uncommitted modifications of the data on the client are sent to the server.

12. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein performing the synchronization includes retrieving metadata from the server to the client and comparing the metadata to metadata retrieved during an earlier login.

13. The computer program product of claim 12, wherein performing the synchronization includes conditionally clearing a local database of the client in response to a determination that differences exist between the retrieved metadata and the metadata retrieved during an earlier login.

14. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein performing the synchronization includes determining whether any dataset changes have occurred with respect to a user.

15. The computer program product of claim 14, wherein performing the synchronization includes performing an incremental synchronization between the client and the server if it is determined that no dataset changes have occurred with respect to the user.

16. The computer program product of claim 14, wherein performing the synchronization includes performing a full incremental synchronization between the client and the server if it is determined that dataset changes have occurred with respect to the user.

17. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer program product is operable such that a runtime synchronization is performed while the application is running on the client.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the runtime synchronization is performed at a predetermined interval.

19. A method, comprising:

identifying a client and a server of a system;

determining that a user has successfully logged into an application of the client; and

performing a synchronization of data associated with the application between the client and the server, utilizing a processor.

20. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor for;

identifying a client and a server of a system;

determining that a user has successfully logged into an application of the client; and

performing a synchronization of data associated with the application between the client and the server.

21. A method for transmitting code for use in a multi-tenant database system on a transmission medium, the method comprising:

transmitting code for identifying a client and a server of a system;

transmitting code for determining that a user has successfully logged into an application of the client; and

transmitting code for performing a synchronization of data associated with the application between the client and the server, utilizing a processor.
