Abstract

A computer-implemented method for generating one or more applications, the method including the steps of: accessing a template for holding content; populating the template with the content; generating the one or more applications, configured for a plurality of computing platforms, based on the populated template; and making the applications available for distribution by a server.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for generating one or more applications, the method including the steps of:

accessing a template for holding content;

populating the template with the content;

generating the one or more applications, configured for a plurality of computing platforms, based on the populated template; and

making the applications available for distribution by a server.

2. The method of claim 1, including the steps of:

receiving data representing design selections for the applications made by a designer; and

modifying the template based on the design selections to generate a designed template.

3. The method of claim 1, including the steps of:

parsing the designed template to generate a resources database including database fields for respective items of the content;

providing the content to the resources database; and

accessing the content in the resources database in the populating step.

4. The method of claim 1, including the steps of:

including one or more web-standard elements in the template;

including one or more non-web-standard custom elements in the template; and

parsing the custom elements to generate web-standard elements for the applications.

5. The method of claim 1, including the steps of:

including one or more non-web-standard native elements in the template;

parsing the native elements to generate platform-specific code in the applications.

The method of claim 5, wherein the step of parsing the native elements is performed during execution of the applications on a computing platform associated with the platform-specific code, and wherein the step of parsing the native elements is performed before loading the content into a web content viewer on the platform.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of parsing the native elements is performed on a local device executing the applications and/or on a remote server in communication with the local device.

8. The method of claim 4, including the steps of:

parsing one or more of the custom elements to generate one or more further custom elements; and

parsing the further custom elements to generate the web-standard elements and/or web-standard content.

9. The method of claim 1, including the steps of:

generating an optimisation plan for bandwidth optimisation of the applications based on the template; and

compressing the populated template based on the optimisation plan.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of generating the optimisation plan is included in the step of populating the template.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the optimisation plan includes statistics about the content in the template.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the optimisation plan, is represented by metadata about the template.

13. The method of claim 1, including the step of generating binary executable versions of the applications.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the server is an agent server, further including the step of receiving the content from a client server.

15. The method of claim 1, including the step of selecting the plurality of computing platforms.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the applications are configured for use on mobile communication devices and/or web-enabled computing platforms.

17. The method of claim 1, including transmitting the applications using a mobile communications network.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the template is at least partially human-readable.

23. A system including one or more modules configured to perform the method of claim 1.

36. Non-transitory computer-readable storage with instructions configured to perform the method of claim 1.
