Abstract

An on-line scheduling application allows users to personalize how television-related, entertainment-related, and social event related information is provided. Users may select one or more sources from which the information is obtained. Users may set up a date book that is also uses as a source. Users may select one or more delivery schemes that the application used to provide the information. One or more of the personalization features of the scheduling application stay be incorporated into an on-line television programming guide.

3. A method for providing a user with personalized schedule information, the method comprising:

receiving a user selection of a social event-related information source;

receiving a user selection of a first criteria for identifying schedule information associated with a social event from the social event-related information source;

receiving, from the user, schedule information for an event personal to the user;

generating personalized schedule information, wherein the personalized schedule information includes the schedule information associated with the social event and includes the schedule information for the event personal to the user;

transmitting the personalized schedule information based on a selected delivery scheme.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the selected delivery scheme is selected by the user.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein receiving the user selection of the social event-related information source comprises receiving a user selection of a web site.

6. The method of claim 3, further comprising receiving a user selection of display settings for displaying the personalized schedule information.

7. The method of claim 3, further comprising maintaining a history of received user selections.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising identifying an event based on the history of received user selections.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising generating a reminder based on the history of received user selections.

10. The method of claim 3, wherein transmitting the personalized schedule information based on a selected delivery scheme comprises transmitting the personalized schedule information to a user device.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

comparing the personalized schedule information to schedule information stored on the user device;

determining that the personalized schedule information is missing from the schedule information stored on the user device; and

updating the schedule information stored on the user device to include the personalized schedule information.

12. The method of claim 3, wherein the social event-related information source comprises an information source selected from the group of information sources consisting of:

a museum database, a theater database, a sporting database, a church database, a hobbies database, and a web site.

13. A system for providing a user with personalized schedule information, the system comprising:

processing circuitry configured to;

receive a user selection of a social event-related information source;

receive a user selection of a first criteria for identifying schedule information associated with a social event from the social event-related information source;

receive, from the user, schedule information for an event personal to the user;

generate personalized schedule information, wherein the personalized schedule information includes the schedule information associated with the social event and includes the schedule information for the event personal to the user;

transmit the personalized schedule information based on a selected delivery scheme.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the selected delivery scheme is selected by the user.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to receive a user selection of a web site as the social event-related information source.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to receive a user selection of display settings for displaying the personalized schedule information.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to maintain a history of received user selections.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to identify an event based on the history of received user selections.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to generate a reminder based on the history of received user selections.

20. The system of claim 13, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to transmit the personalized schedule information to a user device based on a selected delivery scheme.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:

compare the personalized schedule information to schedule information stored on the user device;

determine that the personalized schedule information is missing from the schedule information stored on the user device; and

update the schedule information stored on the user device to include the personalized schedule information.

22. The system of claim 13, wherein the social event-related information source comprises an information source selected from the group of information sources consisting of:

a museum database, a theater database, a sporting database, a church database, a hobbies database, and a web site.
