Abstract

A cone light is a light emitting structure that is placed on a traffic cone to improve the visibility of the traffic cone. The light cone includes a plurality of lights that are mounted to an outer surface of the cone light and a micro-controller that controls the illumination of the lights. The cone light also has a memory storing a plurality of flash patterns and the micro-controller illuminates the lights in the flash pattern selected by the user. Multiple cone lights can be used together with a master cone light transmitting a flash pattern signal to one or more slave cone light so that each of the cone lights is illuminated in a matching or coordinated pattern.

Claims

1. An emergency lighting apparatus for use with a cone-shaped traffic pylon, the cone-shaped traffic pylon having a circular bottom with a first diameter that gradually decreases to a second diameter at a circular top, the second diameter is smaller than the first diameter, comprising:

a first body comprising at least a partial annulus with an interior opening having a third diameter that is larger than the second diameter and smaller than the first diameter such that the first body can be fit onto the traffic pylon and come to rest at a first position between the circular top and the circular bottom;

a first plurality of lights affixed to the first body; and

a first controller affixed within the first body and coupled to the first plurality of lights for controlling operation of the lights.

2. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first body is a complete annulus.

3. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first body is a C-shaped partial annulus.

4. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first plurality of lights are arranged in a pattern.

5. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 4, wherein the first plurality of lights are arranged to emit light rays at a predefined angle.

6. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a mechanical device configured to couple to the traffic pylon and couple to the first body, the mechanical device allowing the first body to be fit onto the traffic pylon and held at a second position above the first position.

7. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mechanical device is a strap.

8. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first controller comprises a master controller and at least one slave controller coupled to the master controller.

9. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 8, wherein the master controller is configured to implement a plurality of control schemes each of which controls operation of the first plurality of lights.

10. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 9, wherein one of the control schemes sets or varies a flash pattern for the first plurality of lights.

11. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 9, wherein one of the control schemes sets or varies a flash rate for the first plurality of lights.

12. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 9, wherein one of the control schemes sets or varies power output for the first plurality of lights.

13. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 9, wherein one of the control schemes sets or varies color for the first plurality of lights.

14. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a second body comprising at least a partial annulus with an interior opening having the third diameter that is larger than the second diameter and smaller than the first diameter, wherein the first body is fit onto a first traffic pylon and the second body is fit onto a second traffic pylon;

a second plurality of lights affixed to the second body; and

a second controller affixed within the second body and coupled to the second plurality of lights for controlling operation of the lights, the second controller also coupled to the first controller, the first controller acting as a master controller and the second controller acting as a slave controller.

21. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a light sensor affixed to the first body and coupled to the first controller, the light sensor configured to detect ambient light, the first controller configured to control operation of the lights based on the ambient light detection.

The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 1, the first body further comprising a pair of symmetrical bodies having one end thereof rotatably coupled together, wherein the symmetrical bodies are rotated apart to an open position to fit onto an object, then rotated together to a closed position to fit tight onto the object.

23. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 22, wherein the one end includes a hinge coupling the symmetrical bodies together.

24. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 23, wherein the hinge includes a spring that biases the symmetrical bodies to a closed position.

25. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 22, wherein each of the symmetrical bodies includes a handle affixed proximate to the one end, the handles being operative to move the symmetrical bodies between the open position and the closed position.

15. An emergency lighting apparatus for use with a cone-shaped traffic pylon, the cone-shaped traffic pylon having a circular bottom with a first diameter that gradually decreases to a second diameter at a circular top, the second diameter is smaller than the first diameter, comprising:

a plurality of bodies each comprising at least a partial annulus with an interior opening having a third diameter that is larger than the second diameter and smaller than the first diameter such that each body can be fit onto a traffic pylon and come to rest at a first position between the circular top and the circular bottom of the traffic pylon;

a plurality of lights affixed to the each body;

a master controller affixed within a first body of the bodies and coupled to the plurality of lights in the first body for controlling operation of the lights;

a slave controller affixed within each body other than the first body and coupled to the plurality of lights in the body for controlling operation of the lights, the slave controller coupled to the master controller which operates a control scheme for the lights of all bodies.

16. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 15, wherein the master controller includes a transmitter for transmitting the control scheme to each slave controller, and each slave controller includes a receiver for receiving and implementing the control scheme.

17. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 15, wherein the master controller is configured to enable setting or varying a flash pattern for the lights, setting or varying a flash rate for the lights, setting or varying power output for the lights, and setting or varying color for the lights.

18. An emergency lighting apparatus for use with a cone-shaped traffic pylon, the cone-shaped traffic pylon having a circular bottom with a first diameter that gradually decreases to a second diameter at a circular top, the second diameter is smaller than the first diameter, comprising:

an annular body including an interior opening having a third diameter that is larger than the second diameter and smaller than the first diameter such that the body can be fit onto a traffic pylon and come to rest at a first position between the circular top and the circular bottom;

a plurality of lights affixed to the body; and

a controller affixed within the body and coupled to the lights for implementing a control scheme to operate the lights.

19. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 18, wherein the controller includes a master controller coupled to some of the lights, and a plurality of slave controllers each coupled to some of the lights and to the master controller.

20. The emergency lighting apparatus of claim 19, further comprising:

a plurality of annular bodies each including an interior opening having a third diameter that is larger than the second diameter and smaller than the first diameter such that the body can be fit onto a traffic pylon and come to rest at a first position between the circular top and the circular bottom;

a plurality of lights affixed to each body; and

a controller affixed within each body and coupled to the lights in that body, wherein one of the bodies includes a master controller and the other bodies include a slave controller, the master controller configured to implement a control scheme to operate the lights, the slave controllers coupled to the master controller.
