Abstract

A physiological monitoring system may determine physiological information, such as physiological rate information, from a physiological signal. The system may generate a window of data, and determine physiological information based on the window of data. The generated window of data may include one or more samples of physiological data, from the physiological signal, and one or more initialization values. The initialization values may include random numbers, noise values, sample values, scaled values thereof, or a combination thereof.

Claims

1. A subject monitoring system for determining physiological information of a subject, comprising:

a sensor configured to generate at least one sample of physiological data, wherein the sensor detects light attenuated by the subject; and

processing equipment coupled to the sensor, wherein the processing equipment is configured to;

determine one or more initialization values based on the at least one sample of physiological data;

generate a window of data that comprises the one or more initialization values and one or more samples of the physiological data; and

process the window of data to determine a physiological parameter.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein processing equipment is further configured to generate a plurality of random numbers.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein processing equipment is further configured to determine the one or more initialization values based on noise values.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein processing equipment is further configured to scale a value based on the at least one sample, wherein the scaling is based on noise values.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the value is one of the at least one sample.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein processing equipment is further configured to determine an initialization value IV₁ based on the following relationship:

IV₁=V₁*(1+C₁*N₁),

where V₁ is a value based on the at least one sample, C₁ is a coefficient, and N₁ is a noise value.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the physiological data is photoplethysmograph data and wherein the physiological parameter is pulse rate.

8. A processing module for determining physiological information of a subject, wherein the processing module is configured to:

receive at least one sample of physiological data derived from a detector output, wherein the detector detects light attenuated by the subject;

determine one or more initialization values based on the at least one sample of physiological data;

generate a window of data that comprises the one or more initialization values and one or more samples of the physiological data; and

process the window of data to determine a physiological parameter.

9. The processing module of claim 8, further configured to generate a plurality of random numbers.

10. The processing module of claim 8, further configured to determine the one or more initialization values based on noise values.

11. The processing module of claim 8, further configured to scale a value based on the at least one sample, wherein the scaling is based on noise values.

12. The processing module of claim 11, wherein the value is one of the at least one sample.

13. The processing module of claim 8, further configured to determine an initialization value IV₁ based on the following relationship:

IV₁=V₁*(1+C₁*N₁),

where V₁ is a value based on the at least one sample, C₁ is a coefficient, and N₁ is a noise value.

14. The processing module of claim 8, wherein the physiological data is photoplethysmograph data and wherein the physiological parameter is pulse rate.

15. A method for determining physiological information of a subject, comprising:

receiving, using processing equipment, at least one sample of physiological data derived from a detector output, wherein the detector detects light attenuated by the subject;

determining, using the processing equipment, one or more initialization values based on the at least one sample of physiological data;

generating, using the processing equipment, a window of data that comprises the one or more initialization values and one or more samples of the physiological data; and

processing, using the processing equipment, the window of data to determine a physiological parameter.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein determining the one or more initialization values comprises generating a plurality of random numbers.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein determining the one or more initialization values is based on noise values.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein determining the one or more initialization values comprises scaling a value based on the at least one sample, wherein the scaling is based on noise values.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the value is one of the at least one sample.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein determining the one or more initialization values comprises determining an initialization value IV₁ based on the following relationship:

IV₁=V₁*(1+C₁*N₁),

where V₁ is a value based on the at least one sample, C₁ is a coefficient, and N₁ is a noise value.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the physiological data is photoplethysmograph data and wherein the physiological parameter is pulse rate.

22. A computer-readable medium for use in determining physiological information of a subject, the computer-readable medium having computer program instructions recorded thereon for:

receiving at least one sample of physiological data derived from a detector output, wherein the detector detects light attenuated by the subject;

determining one or more initialization values based on the at least one sample of physiological data;

generating a window of data that comprises the one or more initialization values and one or more samples of the physiological data; and

processing the window of data to determine a physiological parameter.

23. The computer-readable medium of claim 22, having further computer program instructions recorded thereon for generating a plurality of random numbers.

24. The computer-readable medium of claim 22, having further computer program instructions recorded thereon for determining the one or more initialization values based on noise values.

25. The computer-readable medium of claim 22, having further computer program instructions recorded thereon for scaling a value based on the at least one sample, wherein the scaling is based on noise values.

26. The computer-readable medium of claim 25, wherein the value is one of the at least one sample.

27. The computer-readable medium of claim 22, having further computer program instructions recorded thereon for determining an initialization value IV₁ based on the following relationship:

IV₁=V₁*(1+C₁*N₁),

where V₁ is a value based on the at least one sample, C₁ is a coefficient, and N₁ is a noise value.

28. The computer-readable medium of claim 22, wherein the physiological data is photoplethysmograph data and wherein the physiological parameter is pulse rate.
