Abstract

A prosthetic valve for replacing an atrioventricular heart valve comprises an annular body (2) on which valvular cusps are fastened and which is adapted to be inserted into a valve annulus (18) of the heart (20). The annular body has a plurality of anchor elements which are connected thereto on the ventricle side and optionally other anchor elements which are connected to the annular body on the atrium side. Said anchor elements extend radially outside the annular body and substantially parallel to its outer wall.

Claims

1. A valve prosthesis for replacing an atrioventricular valve of a heart, the prosthesis including:

a ring-shaped body (2) to which valvular cusps are attached and which is adapted to be inserted into a valve annulus (18) of the heart (20), and

a plurality of anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) which are connected to the ring-shaped body (2) at its ventricular side,

characterized in that

the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) extend at least partially radially outside the ring-shaped body (2) essentially parallel to its outer wall (2a).

2. The valve prosthesis according to claim 1, characterized in that the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) extend at the ventricular side of the ring-shaped body (2) over at least half of the axial length (LR) of the ring-shaped body (2).

3. The valve prosthesis according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that that the axial length (LV) of the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is so dimensioned that the anchoring elements, when inserted into the heart, extend to the valve annulus (18) of the heart (20).

4. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) are rounded at its ends, in particular in ring-shape or partial ring-shape.

5. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that anchoring elements (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) at the atrial side are connected to the ring-shaped body (2) and extend outside the ring-shaped body (2) essentially parallel to its outer wall (2a).

6. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the anchoring elements (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) attached to the ring-shaped body at its atrial side extend along less than half of the axial length (LR) of the ring-shaped body (2).

The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the axial length (LAT) of the anchoring elements (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) attached at the atrial side to the ring-shaped body are so dimensioned that they, when inserted into the heart, extend to the valve annulus (18) of the heart (20).

8. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the anchoring elements (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) attached at the atrial side to the ring-shaped body (2) are rounded it its ends, in particular in ring-shape or partial ring-shape.

The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the axial lengths (LV) of the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) connected at the ventricular side to the ring-shaped body (2) and the axial lengths (LAT) of the anchoring elements (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) attached at the atrial side to the ring-shaped body (2) are such that its axial difference corresponds to the axial length (LA) of the valve annulus (18).

10. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the ring-shaped body (2) is frusto-conical, wherein, in particular, the atrial side has a larger diameter than the ventricular side.

11. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the ring-shaped body (2) is made of a mesh, in particular by zig-zag-shaped wires.

12. The valve prosthesis according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the anchoring elements (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d;

6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) are attached to the ring-shaped body via two struts, respectively extending at a distance along the circumference of the ring-shaped body.

13. A valve prosthesis for replacing an atrioventricular valve of a heart, the prosthesis comprising:

a ring-shaped body (12), to which valvular cusps (14) are attached wherein the ring-shaped body is adapted to be inserted into a valve annulus (18) of the heart (20),

and

at least one hook-shaped anchoring element (16, 16′

) that protrudes from the ring-shaped body (12) in direction of the ventricle and is adapted to be anchored in chordae (26), papillary muscles or cusps of the atrioventricular valve, characterized in that the at least one anchoring element having an arm (30, 30a, 30b;

) that extends essentially parallel to the axis (A) of the ring-shaped body (12) and a component (28, 28′

) of the anchoring element extends freely in a circumferential direction such that, upon rotation of the ring-shaped body (12) around its axis (A), the component can be brought into anchoring engagement with tissue, in particular the chordae.
