8. An image forming apparatus comprising:

an image bearing member; a latent electrostatic image forming unit configured to form a latent electrostatic image on the image bearing member; a developing unit configured to develop the latent electrostatic image with a toner to thereby form a visible image; a transfer unit configured to transfer the visible image onto a recording medium; and a protective layer forming unit configured to apply an image bearing member protecting agent onto a surface of the image bearing member on which the visible image has been transferred, to thereby form a protective layer, wherein the protective layer forming unit comprises the image bearing member protecting agent, and an image bearing member protecting agent supplying member configured to supply the image bearing member protecting agent to the surface of the image bearing member, wherein the image bearing member protecting agent comprises a fatty acid metal salt, and an inorganic lubricant, wherein an aspect ratio (average major axis length/average minor axis length) of the inorganic lubricant is 60 to 400, and wherein a mass ratio of the fatty acid metal salt to the inorganic lubricant (fatty acid metal salt/inorganic lubricant) is 98/2 to 85/15. - View Dependent Claims (9)
