Abstract
Supporting end-user to view and operate computing resources through multi-layered item list (“hierarchical list”) has been implemented on native window based computer user work environment of a modern operating system for long time. One example of such use is Windows Explore of MS Windows. The present invention has implemented web based hierarchical list used for access to resources in a computing system, for example access to a centrally controlled distributed scalable virtual machine (CCDSVM) in all kind of network environment. The implementation of the web based hierarchical list is accomplished by creating the hierarchical list in memory to mirror an actual resource structure, where the mirrored hierarchical list is sent to end-user device to cause the end-user device executes a web browser to display the hierarchical list to allow the user via the displayed hierarchical list access to the actual resources in the resource structure.

22. A method for access to a folder structure, the method comprising:
-
creating, by a server, a hierarchical list to represent in a reduced form a folder structure in a storage space, and displaying via a web page a user interface comprising the hierarchical list on a first access device for a user session after a user via the access device logged into the server, wherein the folder structure comprises one or more folders, each of the one or more folders used for storing at least one data object of a file or a subfolder, and wherein the displayed hierarchical list is navigable by the user for selecting a data object from the displayed hierarchical list and requesting access to the selected data object in the folder structure during the user session; and process the request for access to the selected data object in the folder structure received from the access devices to carry out the access to the selected data object, wherein the processing of the request includes updating the hierarchical list and update the folder structure according to the request, wherein the update of the hierarchical list includes updating the displayed user interface to comprise the updated hierarchical list to reflect the updated folder structure. - View Dependent Claims (23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28)

29. A server supporting access to web based folder structure, the server comprising:
-
at least one processor, and a storage medium comprising program code which, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the server to; create a first hierarchical list to represent a first folder structure in a first storage space, and display via a web page a user interface comprising the first hierarchical list on a first access device for a user session after a first user via the first access device logged into the server, wherein the first folder structure comprises one or more folders, where each of the one or more folders is used for storing at least one data object of a file or a subfolder, and wherein the displayed first hierarchical list is navigable by the first user for selecting a data object from the displayed hierarchical list and requesting access to the selected data object in the first folder structure during the user session; and process the request for access to the selected data object in the first folder structure received from the first access devices to carry out the access to the selected data object, wherein the program code to process the request includes program code to update the first hierarchical list and update the first folder structure according to the request, wherein the update of the first hierarchical list includes updating the displayed user interface to comprise the updated first hierarchical list to reflect the updated first folder structure. - View Dependent Claims (30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 39, 40, 41)
