Abstract

A digital image is captured. The captured digital image includes a calibration pattern. The calibration pattern includes displayed information about the calibration pattern. The displayed information is read to obtain calibration information about the captured digital image. A new image is generated. The calibration information is stored with the new image.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

capturing a digital image of a physical object and a calibration pattern, the calibration pattern including displayed information about the calibration pattern;

reading the displayed information to obtain calibration information pertaining to the physical object;

generating a new image of the physical object; and

,

storing the calibration information with the new image.

2. A method as in claim 1 wherein the new image is generated by using digital processing to remove the calibration pattern from the digital image.

3. A method as in claim 1 wherein the new image is generated by using a same image set-up, without the calibration pattern, to capture the new image.

4. A method as in claim 1 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by superimposing a visible pattern over the new image.

5. A method as in claim 1 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by superimposing a two-dimensional bar code over the new image.

6. A method as in claim 1 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by including the calibration as metadata for the new image.

7. A method as in claim 1 wherein the calibration information includes resolution scaling information.

8. A method comprising:

capturing a digital image of a physical object and a calibration pattern located within a focus plane of the digital image;

reading the displayed information to obtain calibration information pertaining to the physical object; and

,

using digital processing to remove the calibration pattern from the digital image.

9. A method as in claim 8 wherein the calibration information is at least partially restored to the digital image by superimposing a visible pattern over the digital image.

10. A method as in claim 8 wherein the calibration information is at least partially restored to the digital image by superimposing a two-dimensional bar code over the digital image.

11. A method as in claim 8 wherein the calibration information is at least partially restored to the digital image by including the calibration as metadata for the digital image.

12. A method as in claim 8 wherein the calibration information includes resolution scaling information.

13. A method comprising:

capturing a digital image of a physical object and a calibration pattern within a focus plane that includes the physical object, the calibration pattern including displayed information about the calibration pattern;

reading the displayed information to obtain calibration information pertaining to the physical object;

capturing a new image by using a same image set-up, without the calibration pattern; and

,

storing the calibration information with the new image.

14. A method as in claim 13 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by superimposing a visible pattern over the new image.

15. A method as in claim 13 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by superimposing a two-dimensional bar code over the new image.

16. A method as in claim 13 wherein the calibration information is stored with the new image by including the calibration as metadata for the new image.

17. A method as in claim 13 wherein the calibration information includes resolution scaling information.

18. A method comprising:

capturing a digital image, the captured digital image including a calibration pattern, the calibration pattern including at least one calibration section used for calibration and additional information that identifies characteristics of the calibration pattern;

reading the additional information to identify characteristics of the calibration pattern;

using the calibration pattern and the identified characteristics of the calibration pattern to generate calibration information about the captured digital image;

generating a new image; and

,

storing the calibration information with the new image.

19. A method as in claim 18 wherein the additional information is encoded information within a bar code that is an identifying indicia for the calibration pattern.

20. A method as in claim 18 wherein the additional information provides information about the calibration pattern to a smart mobile device.
