Abstract

Prepaid staging account systems and methods are described that allow issuer financial institutions to quickly and efficiently launch NFC device payment programs. In an embodiment, a staging account provider computer receives a request to provision a mobile account. The staging account provider computer generates a mobile account PAN and associates it with a funding account PAN, and transmits a personalization request to personalize a payment application for the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer. The staging account provider computer receives a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, and then transmits a mobile account initialization message that includes the mobile account PAN to the primary issuer.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a staging account provider computer, a request to provision a mobile account for a cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the request includes a funding account primary account number (PAN) of an financial account held by a primary issuer and a mobile device identifier;

generating, by the staging account provider computer, a mobile account PAN and associating the mobile account PAN with the funding account PAN;

transmitting, by the staging account provider computer to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer, a personalization request to personalize a payment application for the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the personalization request includes the mobile account PAN, the mobile device identifier, and account description data;

receiving, by the staging account provider computer, a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device; and

transmitting, by the staging account provider computer to the primary issuer, a mobile account initialization message that includes the mobile account PAN.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising requesting, by the staging account provider computer, a prepaid staging account from a prepaid financial institution computer for associating with the mobile account and for funding by the funding account.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting a confirmation message to the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device indicating successful creation of the prepaid mobile staging account.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the confirmation message further comprises an amount of money funding the prepaid mobile staging account.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile device identifier comprises at least one of a mobile telephone number and a mobile device model number.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the account description data comprises at least one of a card layout descriptor, branding information, and product type data.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile payment account initialization message further indicates successful loading of a personalized payment application onto the cardholder'"'"'s payment device.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions configured to cause a processor to:

receive a request to provision a mobile account for a cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the request includes a funding account primary account number (PAN) of an financial account held by a primary issuer and a mobile device identifier;

generate a mobile account PAN and associating the mobile account PAN with the funding account PAN;

transmit a personalization request to personalize a payment application for the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer, wherein the personalization request includes the mobile account PAN, the mobile device identifier, and account description data;

receive a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device; and

transmit a mobile account initialization message to the primary issuer that includes the mobile account PAN.

9. The non-transitory storage medium of claim 8, further comprising instructions configured to cause the processor to request a prepaid staging account from a prepaid financial institution computer for associating with the mobile account and for funding by the funding account.

10. The non-transitory storage medium of claim 8, further comprising instructions configured to cause the processor to transmit a confirmation message to the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device indicating successful creation of the prepaid mobile staging account.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a communications device;

a processor operably connected to the communications device; and

a storage device operably connected to the processor, wherein the storage device stores instructions configured to cause the processor to;

receive a request to provision a mobile account for a cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the request includes a funding account primary account number (PAN) of an financial account held by a primary issuer and a mobile device identifier;

generate a mobile account PAN and associate the mobile account PAN with the funding account PAN;

transmit a personalization request to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer to personalize a payment application for the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the personalization request includes the mobile account PAN, the mobile device identifier, and account description data;

receive a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device; and

transmit a mobile account initialization message that includes the mobile account PAN to the primary issuer.

12. A system comprising:

a primary issuer computer;

a staging account provider computer operably connected to the primary issuer computer;

a prepaid issuer computer operably connected to the staging account provider computer;

a user interface provider computer operably connected to the staging account provider computer; and

a provisioning service computer operably connected to the staging account provider computer;

wherein the staging account provider computer comprises a communications device, a processor operably coupled to the communications device, and a storage device operably connected to the processor, wherein the storage device stores instructions configured to cause the processor to;

receive a request to provision a mobile account for a cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the request includes a funding account primary account number (PAN) of an financial account held by a primary issuer and a mobile device identifier;

generate a mobile account PAN and associate the mobile account PAN with the funding account PAN;

transmit a personalization request to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer to personalize a payment application for the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device, wherein the personalization request includes the mobile account PAN, the mobile device identifier, and account description data;

receive a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder'"'"'s mobile device; and

transmit a mobile account initialization message that includes the mobile account PAN to the primary issuer.

13. A method comprising:

receiving, by a mobile staging account provider computer from a mobile device running a preloaded mobile staging account application program, identification data of a consumer;

associating, by the mobile staging account provider computer, the identification data with a prepaid mobile staging account; and

transmitting, by the mobile staging account provider computer, a confirmation message to the consumer'"'"'s mobile device indicating successful setup.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the identification data is used to identify one of a credit card account, a debit card account, or a bank account issued by an issuer FI to the consumer.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the confirmation message includes the amount of money funding the consumer'"'"'s prepaid mobile staging account.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising, prior to receiving identification data of the consumer, providing, by a mobile device provider associated with at least one of a mobile network operator (MNO) and at least one issuer FI, a mobile device with a preloaded staging account application program.

17. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions configured to cause a processor to:

receive identification data of a consumer from a mobile device running a preloaded mobile staging account application program;

associate the identification data with a prepaid mobile staging account; and

transmit a confirmation message to the consumer'"'"'s mobile device indicating successful setup.

18. The non-transitory storage medium of claim 17, further comprising instructions configured to cause the processor to identify one of a credit card account, a debit card account, or a bank account issued by an issuer FI to the consumer.

19. The non-transitory storage medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions for transmitting a confirmation message further comprise instructions configured to cause the processor to transmit an indication of the amount of money funding the consumer'"'"'s prepaid mobile staging account.

20. An apparatus, comprising:

a communications device;

a processor operably connected to the communications device; and

a storage device operably connected to the processor, wherein the storage device stores instructions configured to cause the processor to;

receive identification data of a consumer from a mobile device running a preloaded mobile staging account application program;

associate the identification data with a prepaid mobile staging account; and

transmit a confirmation message to the consumer'"'"'s mobile device indicating successful setup.
