1. An apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to:
- direct one or more unit dose medications to be placed into a patient-specific overpack, wherein the one or more unit dose medications are anticipated to be needed by a patient;
direct the patient-specific overpack to be staged at a first location;
receive a request for the one or more unit dose medications; and
cause the one or more unit dose medications to be dispensed to an authorized medical person in response to receiving the request.

Abstract
Provided herein are various apparatuses, systems, and methods for improving the efficiency of medication distribution within a healthcare facility. In particular, embodiments may provide for dispensing medications needed and medications anticipated to be needed to an authorized medical person for administration to a patient in a healthcare facility. A method may include anticipating, by a processor, the need for one or more unit dose medications for a patient; directing the one or more unit dose medications to be placed into a patient specific overpack; directing the patient-specific overpack to be staged at a first location; receiving a request for the one or more unit dose medications; and causing the one or more unit dose medications to be dispensed to an authorized medical person in response to receiving the request.

13. A system for dispensing medication comprising:

a patient-specific overpack configured to receive one or more unit dose medications at a central pharmacy, wherein each of the one or more unit dose medications are intended for a single patient; a transport device configured to receive the patient-specific overpack and transport the patient-specific overpack to a location between the central pharmacy and the patient; and a nurse server at the location between the central pharmacy and the patient configured to receive the patient-specific overpack, wherein the nurse server is configured to present the contents of the patient-specific overpack to an authorized medical person in response to verifying the identification of the authorized medical person. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
