Abstract

Disclosed is a touch screen panel including a plurality of separate sensing electrodes, and a plurality of separate driving electrodes. Each of the sensing electrodes includes a main electrode and a plurality of expanded parts. Each of the expanded parts includes a sub-electrode extending from the main electrode and at least one expanded electrode extending from the sub-electrode. Each of the driving electrodes surrounds at least part of a corresponding one of the expanded parts.

Claims

1. A touch screen panel comprising:

a plurality of separate sensing electrodes;

a plurality of separate driving electrodes; and

a flexible printed circuit having a bonding region, a via region in an area of the flexible printed circuit separate from the bonding region, and a plurality of traces thereon configured to electrically connect bond pads in the bonding region to a touch screen controller,

wherein;

each of the sensing electrodes comprises a main electrode and a plurality of expanded parts,

each of the expanded parts comprises (i) a sub-electrode expanding or extending from the main electrode and (ii) at least one expanded electrode expanding or extending from the sub-electrode, and

each of the driving electrodes surrounds at least part of a corresponding one of the expanded parts.

2. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensing electrodes and the plurality of driving electrodes are on or in a single layer.

3. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the sub-electrodes of the expanded parts extend from different portions of the main electrode, respectively.

4. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the at least one expanded electrode comprises:

a first expanded electrode expanding or extending from the sub-electrode in a first direction; and

a second expanded electrode expanding or extending from the sub-electrode in a second direction, the second direction being different from the first direction.

5. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the sub-electrode is perpendicular to the main electrode, and the at least one expanded electrode is parallel to the main electrode.

6. The touch screen panel according to claim 4, wherein the first expanded electrode and the second expanded electrode are vertically symmetrical with respect to the sub-electrode.

7. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein side surfaces of the driving electrode surrounding the sub-electrode and the expanded electrode are an equal distance from nearest side surfaces of the sub-electrode and the expanded electrode.

8. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, further comprising:

an insulation layer under the plurality of sensing electrodes and the plurality of driving electrodes.

9. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the main electrode has a line shape having a plurality of bent portions, and

the sub-electrode extends from at least one of the bent portions.

10. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein an angle formed by the main electrode and the sub-electrode is identical to an angle formed by the expanded electrode and the sub-electrode.

11. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein each of the expanded parts further comprises:

a first expanded electrode extending from a predetermined portion of the sub-electrode between the main electrode and the expanded electrode in a first direction; and

a second expanded electrode extending from the predetermined portion of the sub-electrode in a second direction different from the first direction.

12. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, further comprising:

a plurality of first wiring lines connected to the plurality of sensing electrodes; and

a plurality of second wiring lines connected to the plurality of driving electrodes.

13. The touch screen panel according to claim 12, wherein at least one of the expanded parts further comprises an auxiliary expanded electrode expanding or extending from the at least one expanded electrode.

14. The touch screen panel according to claim 12, wherein the first wiring lines are connected to corresponding first ends of the sensing electrodes, and

the second wiring lines are connected to corresponding driving electrodes, and the second wiring lines expand or extend to corresponding second ends of the sensing electrodes, the second ends being different from the first ends.

16. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, wherein the flexible printed circuit comprises a flexible substrate, the bond pads are on a first surface of the flexible substrate, and the plurality of traces are on a second surface of the flexible substrate opposite to the first surface.

The touch screen panel according to claim 16, further comprising a plurality of conductive extensions from the bond pads, the plurality of conductive extensions being on the flexible substrate, and a plurality of vias through the flexible substrate in the via region, configured to electrically connect the bond pads to the traces.

18. The touch screen panel according to claim 1, further comprising the touch screen controller.

19. The touch screen panel according to claim 18, wherein each sensing electrode-driving electrode pair forms a capacitor, the capacitors form an array, the touch screen controller transmits control signals to rows of capacitors in the array, and the touch screen controller receives a sense signal from each column in the array.

20. The touch screen panel according to claim 19, wherein each driving electrode receives one of the control signals, and each sensing electrode is electrically connected to a corresponding sense signal.

15. The touch screen panel according to claim 15, wherein line widths of the second wiring lines increase as distances between the second wiring lines and the driving electrodes increase.
