Abstract

An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device includes a display, one or more processors, memory, and one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors. The one or more programs include instructions for detecting a display change associated with media content item represented on a display, transmitting a request (e.g., to a server) for at least a portion of the media content item, receiving the requested portion of the media content item, storing the received portion of the media content item in a local cache, receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item, and presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving the user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.

Claims

1. An electronic device, comprising:

one or more processors;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

detecting a display change associated with media content item represented on a display;

transmitting a request for at least a portion of the media content item;

receiving the requested portion of the media content item;

storing the received portion of the media content item in a local cache;

receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item; and

presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving the user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the display change comprises hovering a cursor over a first area of a display.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the display change remains for a duration threshold.

4. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the display change comprises displaying a new portion of at least one of a webpage and a mobile application interface.

The electronic device of claim 1, the one or more programs further comprising instructions for flagging the received portion of the media content item for deletion in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has not been received within a first threshold duration.

The electronic device of claim 5, the one or more programs further comprising instructions for presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has been received within the first threshold duration.

The electronic device of claim 5, the one or more programs further comprising instructions for determining whether to add the media content item to a library or present a preview of the received portion of the media content item in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has been received within the first threshold duration, wherein the media content item is added to the library when a first type of input is received, and a preview is presented when a second type of input is received.

8. The electronic device of claim 7, wherein the instructions for adding the media content item to the library include instructions for at least one of:

transmitting a request for a full version of the media content item; and

changing one or more software permission controls to convert a preview version of the media content item into a full version of the media content item.

9. The electronic device of claim 7, the one or more programs further comprising instructions for unflagging the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.

10. The electronic device of claim 1, further comprising deleting the received portion of the media content when one of the local cache reaches capacity, the user provides an input indicating deletion, and a timer breaches a second threshold duration.

11. A method of pre-fetching a media content item, performed at an electronic device having one or more processors and memory storing instructions for execution by the one or more processors, the method comprising:

detecting a display change associated with a media content item represented on a display;

transmitting a request for at least a portion of the media content item;

receiving the requested portion of the media content item;

storing the received portion of the media content item in a local cache;

receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item; and

presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving the user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the display change comprises hovering a cursor over a first area of a display.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the display change remains for a duration threshold.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the display change comprises displaying a new portion of at least one of a webpage and a mobile application interface.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising flagging the received portion of the media content item for deletion in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has not been received within a first threshold duration.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has been received within the first threshold duration.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising determining whether to add the media content item to a library or present a preview of the received portion of the media content item in response to determining that a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item has been received within the first threshold duration, wherein the media content item is added to the library when a first type of input is received, and a preview is presented when a second type of input is received.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein adding the media content item to the library comprises at least one of:

transmitting a request for a full version of the media content item; and

changing one or more software permission controls to convert a preview version of the media content item into a full version of the media content item.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising unflagging the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising deleting the received portion of the media content when one of the local cache reaches capacity, the user provides an input indicating deletion, and a timer breaches a second threshold duration.
