Abstract

A method is disclosed for reprinting a paper copy of a receipt at a physical store location. The receipt printing may be based off of an electronic receipt. A customer may provide receipt identification to a returns associate at a POS terminal in a store location. Information may be sent to a server or computer system to request that a receipt be reprinted. The server may then process the request and transmit receipt information to the POS terminal where a paper copy of the receipt is printed for the returns associate. A modified receipt may be printed which includes receipt information for additional transactions. A modified receipt may be printed which includes additional information regarding items on the receipt.

Claims

1. A method for reprinting a receipt comprising:

selecting an original receipt;

transmitting information to a receipts management server to identify the original receipt;

the server processing the information identifying the original receipt to provide modified receipt information related to the original receipt;

the server sending the modified receipt information to a POS terminal; and

the POS terminal printing a modified receipt which is related to the original receipt from the modified receipt information.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the server identifying an additional receipt for an additional transaction which is related to the original receipt.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt comprises multiple receipts including the additional receipt and the original receipt.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the additional transaction is a transaction to return an item which is present on the original receipt.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt includes a timeline of the additional receipt and the original receipt.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt comprises a single receipt showing an original transaction related to the original receipt and showing the additional transaction.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt shows a later return transaction for an item on the original receipt.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the modified receipt indicates a date that the item was returned.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt comprises additional information for an item on the original receipt.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the modified receipt comprises returns policy information for an item on the original receipt.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the modified receipt indicates dates which are relevant to the return of an item on the original receipt.

12. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified receipt is not provided to the customer.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

a returns associate reviewing the modified receipt; and

the returns associate evaluating a proposed item return in light of the modified receipt.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the customer provides receipt identification to a POS terminal and the POS terminal transmits information to the receipts management server.

15. A method for reprinting a receipt comprising:

a customer selecting an original receipt;

the customer providing identification information corresponding to the original receipt to a POS terminal;

the POS terminal transmitting receipt information to a receipts management server to request a printed copy of the original receipt;

the receipts management server processing the receipt information;

the receipts management server transmitting receipt information to the POS terminal; and

the POS terminal printing the modified receipt comprising information from the original receipt and additional information.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

a returns associate reviewing the modified receipt; and

the returns associate evaluating a proposed item return in light of the modified receipt.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the step of the customer selecting an original receipt more specifically comprises:

the customer operating electronic receipts software on a mobile electronic device; and

the customer selecting an electronic receipt, the electronic receipt being stored on the mobile electronic device.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the receipts management server processes the receipt information to identify an additional transaction which is related to the original receipt and wherein the modified receipt includes information from the additional transaction.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the modified receipt comprises multiple transactions related to an item on the original receipt.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the modified receipt indicates that an item on the original receipt had previous been returned.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the modified receipt comprises returns policy information for an item on the original receipt.
