Abstract

The invention relates to a polymer material comprising a mixture of: a base polylactic acid (PLA) polymer formed by between 60 wt.-% and 85 wt.-% L units and between 15 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% D units or between 60 wt.-% and 85 wt.-% D units and between 15 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% L units; and a plasticiser selected from the group containing citric acid esters, glycerin esters and derivatives, poly(alkylene ethers), oligomers of lactide or derivatives of lactic acid, fatty acid esters and epoxidised oils, representing between 10 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% in relation to the total weight of the polymer material.

Claims

1. A polymer material, comprising:

a mixture of a base polylactic acid polymer comprising 60% to 85% by weight of a L structural unit and 15% to 40% by weight of a D structural unit, or 60% to 85% by weight of the D structural unit and 15% to 40% of the L structural unit, and

a plasticiser selected from the group consisting of a citric acid ester, a glycerol ester, a derivative of glycerol ester, a polyalkylene ether, a lactide oligomer, a derivative of lactic acid, a fatty acid ester and an epoxidised oil, a content of which ranges between 10% and 40% by weight based on a total weight of the polymer material.

2. The polymer material according to claim 1, wherein the plasticiser is a citric acid ester, which is an alkyl ester and optionally is n-tributyl citrate (TBC).

3. The polymer material according to claim 1, wherein the plasticiser is a glycerol ester and a derivative thereof, which are mono-, di-, triglycerides, at least one of acetylated and alkylated derivatives thereof, or any mixture thereof.

4. The polymer material according to claim 1, wherein the content of the plasticiser ranges between 15% and 30% by weight based on the total weight of the polymer material.

5. The polymer material according to claim 1, wherein the base polylactic acid polymer comprises 15% to 30% of the L structural unit and 70% to 85% of the D structural unit or 15% to 30% of the D structural unit and 70% to 85% of the L structural unit.

6. The polymer material according to claim 1, wherein the base polylactic acid polymer is modified by crosslinking via a cross-linking agent, thereby obtaining a modified polylactic acid polymer.

7. The polymer material according to claim 6, wherein the cross-linking agent is selected from the group consisting of a methacrylic and acrylic copolymer optionally comprising a glycidyl functional group;

an isocyanurate derivative;

an organic peroxide; and

any mixture thereof.

8. The polymer material according to claim 6, wherein a content of the cross-linking agent is at most 5% by weight based on a total weight of the modified polylactic acid polymer.

9. The polymer material according to claim 1, further comprising an anti-blocking agent, which is optionally selected from the group consisting of a diatomaceous earth and a fatty acid amide.

10. A polymer material film comprising the polymer material according to claim 1.

11. A laminated assembly, comprising:

at least two substrates, and

an interposed film of impact- and tear-resistant polymer material comprising a mixture (i) of a base polylactic acid polymer comprising 60% to 85% by weight of a L structural unit and 15% to 40% by weight of a D structural unit or 60% to 85% by weight of the D structural unit and 15% to 40% of the L structural unit; and

(ii) a plasticiser in a content of from 10% to 40% by weight based on a total weight of the impact- and tear-resistant polymer material,

wherein the interposed film lies between the at least two substrates.

12. The laminated assembly according to claim 11, wherein the plasticiser is selected from the group consisting of a citric acid ester, a glycerol ester, a derivative of glycerol ester, a polyalkylene ether, a lactide oligomer, a derivative of lactic acid, a fatty acid ester and an epoxidised oil.

13. The laminated assembly according to claim 11, wherein the base polylactic acid polymer is modified by crosslinking via a cross-linking agent.

14. The laminated assembly according to claim 11, wherein the interposed film comprises an anti-blocking agent, which is optionally selected from the group consisting of a diatomaceous earth and a fatty acid amide.

15. The laminated assembly according to claim 11, wherein at least one of the at least two substrates is a glass substrate.
