Abstract

A textile electrode device, for detection of electrophysiological signals from the skin of a subject, having: a substrate designed to be positioned on the skin; at least a first detection electrode arranged on the substrate; and at least a first conducting element, carried by the substrate and electrically connected to the first detection electrode. The first detection electrode has a plurality of textile fibres, including conductive fibres and, optionally, fibres of a super-absorbent material, arranged in a direction substantially orthogonal to an upper surface of the substrate and reciprocally in contact with each other, so as to ensure uniform electrical contact over the entire first detection electrode. In particular, the first detection electrode is obtained by means of the flocking technique.

Claims

1. A textile electrode device, comprising:

a substrate, designed to be positioned on the skin of a subject;

at least a first detection electrode arranged on the substrate and configured to detect electrophysiological signals from the skin of the subject; and

at least a first conducting element, carried by the substrate and electrically connected to the first detection electrode,

characterized in that the first detection electrode comprises a first plurality of textile fibres, of an electrically conductive material, arranged in a direction substantially orthogonal to an upper surface of the substrate and reciprocally in contact with each other.

2. The device according to claim 1, wherein said first detection electrode is obtained by means of the flocking technique.

3. The device according to claim 2, wherein the first detection electrode is obtained by means of the electrostatic flocking technique.

4. The device according to claim 1, wherein said first detection electrode further comprises a second plurality of textile fibres, of a super-absorbent material, interposed between the textile fibres of conductive material of the first plurality.

5. The device according to claim 1, further comprising an adhesive layer arranged between the substrate and the first detection electrode, to which the textile fibres are anchored.

6. The device according to claim 1, wherein the textile fibres have a length in the range between 0 5 mm and 2 mm, and a linear density in the range between 1 dtex and 20 dtex.

The device according to claim 1, wherein said first detection electrode is obtained by means of the flocking technique, and also comprising further detection electrodes, these also obtained by the flocking technique and arranged over the substrate, and further conducting elements, each one electrically connected to a respective detection electrode.

The device according to claim 1, wherein the first conducting element is woven through the substrate, and has a first end in electrical and mechanical contact with the first detection electrode and a second end in contact with an electrical connector element, designed for connection to a conditioning electronics for the detected electrophysiological signals.

9. The device according to claim 1, wherein the substrate comprises an elastic fabric.

10. The device according to claim 9, wherein the substrate is part of, or is carried by, a wearable element that can be worn by the subject, so that the first detection electrode is directly in contact with the skin.

11. A sensor-fitted wearable element, comprising a textile electrode device according to claim 1, the sensor-fitted wearable element being designed to be worn by a subject for detection of electrophysiological signals from the skin.

12. A process for manufacturing a textile electrode device, comprising the steps of:

providing a substrate, designed to be positioned on the skin of a subject;

forming at least a first detection electrode on the substrate, configured to detect electrophysiological signals from the skin of the subject; and

forming at least a first conducting element, carried by the substrate and electrically connected to the first detection electrode,

characterized in that the step of forming at least a first detection electrode comprises coupling to the substrate a first plurality of textile fibres, of an electrically conductive material, arranged in a direction substantially orthogonal to an upper surface of the substrate and reciprocally in contact with each other.

13. The process according to claim 12, wherein the step of forming at least a first detection electrode comprises:

depositing an adhesive layer on the substrate, shaped so as to define at least one detection area;

directing a plurality of textile fibres towards the substrate, by means of the flocking technique, so that they adhere to the adhesive layer at the detection area.

The process according to claim 13, wherein the plurality of textile fibres comprises fibres of an electrically conductive material, and wherein the step of directing towards the substrate comprises generating an electrostatic field on the substrate so as to orient the textile fibres towards the substrate, in a direction substantially orthogonal to an upper surface of the substrate.

15. The process according to claim 14, wherein the plurality of textile fibres also comprises fibres of a super-absorbent material, interposed between the fibres of conductive material.

16. The process according to claim 13, wherein the step of forming at least a first detection electrode also comprises the step of forming further detection electrodes arranged over the substrate, through the steps of:

shaping the adhesive layer over the substrate so as to define further detection areas, one for each further detection electrode; and

directing the plurality of textile fibres towards the substrate, so that they adhere to the adhesive layer at the detection areas, thereby forming the further detection electrodes.
