Abstract

Control of a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation is disclosed. The three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation may be generated based on dynamic information such as traffic information, weather information, or other information that may be featured on a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation. A signal generated by a control device maneuvered by a presenter and reflecting positional information of the control device is received. A view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation is manipulated in response to the received signal, the manipulation of the virtual broadcast presentation at least partially based on positional information of the control device.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation, the method comprising:

processing two-dimensional satellite images in the context of geographical information in real-time to generate a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation;

receiving signals from a control device, wherein;

one or more received signals are respectively associated with motions or attitudes of the control device, each motion or attitude caused by a maneuver of the control device by a user, and

one or more received signals are respectively associated with actuation of components of the control device by the user; and

causing manipulations of a view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation in real-time in response to the received signals, wherein each of the manipulations is based on a received signal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein a maneuver of the control device by the user is selected from a group consisting of:

turning, rotating, tilting, or twisting the control device about principal axes of the control device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with a motion or attitude of the control device is selected from a group consisting of:

zooming, panning across, rotating, and tilting the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the component of the control device is a button, switch, or trigger of the control device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with actuation of a component of the control device includes aligning the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation with a default orientation.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with actuation of a component of the control device changes a focus of the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation to a point of interest within the presentation, wherein the presentation includes a plurality of points of interest.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one received signal is associated with a magnitude of the maneuver of the control device by the user.

The method of claim 7, further comprising causing at least one manipulation of the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation based on the respective at least one signal associated with a magnitude of the maneuver, wherein the speed at which the view is manipulated is based on the magnitude of the maneuver of the control device by the user.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein a sensitivity of the control device to a maneuver of the control device is adjustable by the user.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the control device is configurable by the user to activate and deactivate components of the control device.

11. A system for controlling a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation, the method comprising:

a communications module stored in memory and executable by a processor to receive signals from a control device, wherein;

one or more received signals are respectively associated with motions or attitudes of the control device, each motion or attitude caused by a maneuver of the control device by a user, and

one or more received signals are respectively associated with actuation of components of the control device by the user; and

a presentation rendering module stored in memory and executable by a processor to;

process two-dimensional satellite images in the context of geographical information in real-time to generate a three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation, and

cause manipulations of a view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation in real-time in response to the received signals, wherein each of the manipulations is based on a received signal.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein a maneuver of the control device by the user is selected from a group consisting of:

turning, rotating, tilting, or twisting the control device about principal axes of the control device.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with a motion or attitude of the control device is selected from a group consisting of:

zooming, panning across, rotating, and tilting the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the component of the control device is a button, switch, or trigger of the control device.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with actuation of a component of the control device includes aligning the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation with a default orientation.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein a manipulation based on a received signal associated with actuation of a component of the control device changes a focus of the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation to a point of interest within the presentation, wherein the presentation includes a plurality of points of interest.

17. The system of claim 11, wherein at least one signal received at the communications module is associated with a magnitude of the maneuver of the control device by the user.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the presentation rendering module is further executable by a processor to cause at least one manipulation of the view of the three-dimensional virtual broadcast presentation based on the respective at least one signal associated with a magnitude of the maneuver, wherein the speed at which the view is manipulated is based on the magnitude of the maneuver of the control device by the user.

19. The system of claim 11, wherein the communications module further comprises a configuration panel stored in memory and executable by a processor to adjust a sensitivity of the control device to a maneuver of the control device by the user.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the configuration panel is further executable by a processor to activate and deactivate components of the control device.
