Abstract

A shelf including a mounting bracket having two arms is provided. The length of the arms and the distance between the arms are adjustable so the shelf may be attached to and project outwardly from various support structures.

Claims

1. A boat shelf comprising:

(a) a shelf assembly comprising top plate and a frame having a mounting plate and a pair of side plates, wherein (1) the mounting plate has a top and first and second sides, (ii) the side plates extend away from the first side of the mounting plate, (iii) the top plate extends across the top of the mounting plate, (iv) the top plate has a first section extending away from the first side of the mounting plate and coupled in supporting relation to the side plates, and (v) the top plate has a second section extending away from the second side of the mounting plate away from the first section of the top plate; and

(b) a bracket assembly adapted to secure the shelf assembly to a surface of a boat wherein first section of the top plate projects outwardly from the surface of the boat, the bracket assembly comprising a bracket having a first set of holes and a second set of holes, a first set of fasteners passing through the first set of holes and adapted to attach the bracket to a surface of a boat, and a second set of fasteners passing through the second set of holes and adapted to attach the bracket to shelf assembly.

The boat shelf of claim 1 wherein the mounting plate is positioned at the rear of the frame and the bracket assembly is coupled to the mounting plate and includes a pair of spaced apart aims each of said arms having a first leg in face-to-face registration with the second side of mounting plate and a second leg extending in a direction normal to the first leg, said second legs of the spaced apart arms projecting parallel to each other and away from the second side of the mounting plate, said arms each attached to the mounting plate by the second set of fasteners at a predetermined distance from each other which is adjustable.

The boat shelf of claim 2 further including first openings extending through the mounting plate and a second opening in the first leg of each of the arms of the bracket, wherein the second fasteners pass through the second openings of the first legs of the arms and first openings of the mounting plate to secure the arms to the mounting plate, and wherein at least one of said first and second openings is an elongated slot

4. The boat shelf of claim 2 wherein the second leg of each arm of the bracket includes means for adjusting the length of the arm.

5. The boat shelf of claim 1 wherein the second section of the top plate engages the bracket to inhibit rotation of the frame relative to the bracket.

6. A boat shelf comprising:

(a) a support structure of a boat;

(b) a shelf assembly comprising top plate and a frame having a mounting plate and a pair of side plates, wherein (i) the mounting plate has a top and first and second sides, (ii) the side plates extend away from the first side of the mounting plate, (iii) the top plate extends across the top of the mounting plate, (iv) the top plate has a first section extending away from the first side of the mounting plate and coupled in supporting relation to the side plates, and (v) the top plate has a second section extending away from the second side of the mounting plate away from the first section of the top plate;

(c) a bracket assembly coupling the shelf assembly to the support structure of the boat, the bracket assembly comprising a bracket having a first set of openings and a second set of openings, a first set of fasteners cooperating with the first set of openings of the bracket to couple the bracket to the shelf assembly, and a second set of fasteners cooperating with the second set of openings in the bracket to couple the bracket to the support structure of the boat.

The boat shelf of claim 6 wherein the second side of the mounting plate comprised a mounting surface and bracket comprises first and second arms extending substantially parallel to each other from the mounting surface away from the side plates, each arm comprising a first leg, said first leg in face-to-face registration with the mounting surface, and a second leg extending from the first leg in a direction substantially normal to the first leg.

The boat shelf of claim 7 wherein the first set of fasteners cooperate with the first legs of the first and second aims and the mounting plate to couple the first and second arms to the mounting plate so that the arms are positioned a desired distance from each other, said distance being adjustable;

and the second set of fasteners couple the arms to the support structure of the boat.

9. The boat shelf of claim 7 wherein the support structure of the boat includes a member positioned between the two arms and attached to the two aims by the second set of fasteners.

10. The boat shelf of claim 7 wherein the support structure of the boat includes first and second spaced apart members, and the first and second arms are positioned between the first and second spaced apart members of the support structure of the boat.

11. The boat shelf of claim 10 wherein, using the second set of fasteners, the first arm of the bracket is attached to the first member of the first and second spaced apart members and the second arm is attached to the second member of the first and second spaced apart members.

12. The boat shelf of claim 6 wherein the bracket assembly has a first portion covered by the top plate and a second portion not covered by the top plate.

13. The boat shelf of claim 6 wherein at least one of the openings of the first or second set of openings comprises and elongated slot.

14. The boat shelf of claim 6 wherein the bracket includes at least one member having a first leg in face-to-face registration with the second side of the mounting plate and a second leg extending from the first leg in a direction normal to the first leg.

15. A boat shelf assembly comprising:

(a) a top plate;

(b) a bracket assembly adapted to secure the top plate to a boat, the bracket assembly comprising first and second anus;

(c) each arm having a first leg and a second leg extending the first leg at a right angle;

(d) the first leg of each arm having a first set of holes;

(e) the second leg of each arm having at least one elongate slot;

(f) a first set of fasteners passing through the first set of holes of each arm and adapted to attach the arms to the boat; and

(g) a second set of fasteners passing through elongate slot and adapted to couple the bracket assembly to the top plate such that the distance between the two arms is adjustable.
