Abstract

An apparatus includes a housing, a medicament container, an actuator, and a biasing member. The actuator is configured to move the medicament container within the housing when the actuator is moved from a first configuration to a second configuration. The actuator includes a gas container and a puncturer. When the actuator is in the first configuration, a portion of the puncturer is disposed apart from the gas container. When the actuator is in the second configuration, the portion of the puncturer is disposed within the gas container. The gas container has a longitudinal axis offset from a longitudinal axis of the medicament container. The biasing member is configured to bias the actuator toward the second configuration.

Claims

1. A method for injecting a medicament into a body comprising:

placing a distal end portion of a housing containing a base onto the body such that the base is moved relative to the housing;

releasing a biasing member in response to the base moving relative to the housing, the biasing member configured to move a puncture from a first position apart from a gas container to a second position within the gas container, such that the gas container releases a pressurized gas;

driving a medicament injector in a distal direction with the pressurized gas, the medicament injector driven from a first position within the housing to a second position such that a portion of the medicament injector extends from the housing; and

retracting the medicament injector using a spring configured to produce a force to move the medicament injector from the second position in a proximal direction to a third position such that the portion of the medicament injector is disposed within the housing.

2. A method, comprising:

actuating a release member;

discharging a gas from a gas container in response to the actuating the release member, the gas container contained within a housing, the gas container having a longitudinal axis;

moving a medicament container within the housing in response to a force produced by the gas, the medicament container having a longitudinal axis offset from the longitudinal axis of the gas container; and

transferring a medicament from the medicament container through a needle coupled to the medicament container in response to the force.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the discharging includes moving the gas container within the housing such that a portion of the gas container is in contact with a puncturer.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein:

the discharging includes moving the gas container within the housing in a first direction; and

the moving includes moving the medicament container within the housing in a second direction opposite the first direction.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein the moving includes moving the medicament container such that a needle coupled to the medicament container is disposed outside of the housing.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein the transferring includes moving a plunger within the medicament container in response to the force.

10. The method of claim 2, wherein:

the moving the medicament container is performed at a first time; and

the transferring is performed at a second time after the first time.

11. An apparatus comprising:

a housing;

a system actuator configured to release energy from an energy storage member to produce a force;

a moveable member, the force configured to move the moveable member between a first moveable member position and a second moveable member position, the moveable member configured to discharge a medicament when moving from the first moveable member position to the second moveable member position.
