Abstract

Methods for automatically buffering and displaying video feeds associated with a live event are described. The video feeds displayed on the mobile device may comprise live video feeds or replays associated with the live event. A replay may comprise a playback of one or more buffered video feeds in a particular sequence and at a particular playback rate. The particular sequence may be determined based on the viewing behavior of the end user of the mobile device and/or the viewing behaviors of one or more other end users using other mobile devices at the live event. In some cases, the replay may comprise a shared replay in which a group of end users attending the live event may interact with each other while sharing a common replay.

Claims

1. A method for displaying video on a mobile device, comprising:

acquiring a plurality of video feeds of a live event as the live event occurs;

buffering the plurality of video feeds on the mobile device;

detecting a physical gesture using the mobile device at a first point in time, the physical gesture includes pointing the mobile device in a particular direction;

determining a target camera located within a venue hosting the live event based on the particular direction in response to the detecting a physical gesture, the target camera is associated with a first video feed of the plurality of video feeds;

determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time;

determining whether to display a live version of the first video feed or a buffered version of the first video feed based on the determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time;

displaying on the mobile device at least a portion of the buffered version of the first video feed if the break in the action occurred at the first point in time.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the live event comprises a sporting event; and

the at least a portion of the buffered version of the first video feed corresponds with a replay time frame, the replay time frame is set based on whether a game clock associated with the live event is stopped at the first point in time.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein:

the replay time frame is set to a first time frame if the game clock associated with the live event is stopped at the first point in time, the replay time frame is set to a second time frame if the game clock associated with the live event is not stopped at the first point in time, the first time frame is greater than the second time frame.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the live event comprises a sporting event; and

the determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time includes determining whether a timeout has been called during the sporting event at the first point in time.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time includes determining whether a game clock associated with the live event is stopped at the first point in time.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the detecting a physical gesture includes detecting a flicking of the mobile device in the particular direction.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the detecting a physical gesture includes detecting a static gesture involving an orientation of the mobile device in the particular direction.

9. A mobile device for displaying video associated with a live event, comprising:

a receiver, the receiver receives a plurality of video feeds of the live event as the live event occurs;

a buffer, the buffer buffers the plurality of video feeds on the mobile device as the live event occurs;

one or more processors in communication with the receiver and the buffer, the one or more processors detect a physical gesture using the mobile device at a first point in time, the one or more processors determine a target camera located within a venue hosting the live event in response detecting the physical gesture, the target camera is associated with a first video feed of the plurality of video feeds, the one or more processors determine if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time, the one or more processors determine whether to display a live version of the first video feed or a buffered version of the first video feed based on if the break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time; and

a display in communication with the one or more processors, the display displays at least a portion of the buffered version of the first video feed if the break in the action occurred at the first point in time.

10. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein:

the one or more processors acquire a map of the venue associated with the live event, determine a location within the venue associated with the physical gesture relative to the map, and determine a pointing vector associated with the physical gesture relative to the map; and

the one or more processors determine the target camera based on the location and the pointing vector.

11. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein:

the at least a portion of the buffered version of the first video feed corresponds with a replay time frame, the replay time frame is set based on whether a game clock associated with the live event is stopped at the first point in time.

12. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein:

the one or more processors determine if the break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time by determining whether a game clock associated with the live event is stopped at the first point in time.

13. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein:

the one or more processors detect the physical gesture by detecting a sudden movement of the mobile device in a particular direction.

14. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein:

the one or more processors detect the physical gesture by detecting a static gesture involving a particular orientation of the mobile device.

15. A method for displaying video on a mobile device, comprising:

acquiring a plurality of video feeds of a live event as the live event occurs;

buffering the plurality of video feeds on the mobile device as the live event occurs;

detecting a physical gesture involving the mobile device at a first point in time;

determining a target camera located within a venue hosting the live event corresponding with the physical gesture in response to the detecting a physical gesture, the target camera is associated with a first video feed of the plurality of video feeds;

determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time;

determining whether to display a portion of a buffered version of the first video feed associated with the target camera based on the determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time; and

displaying on the mobile device the portion of the buffered version of the first video feed associated with the target camera.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

determining one or more group devices associated with a group of spectators at the live event;

acquiring supplemental information from the one or more group devices; and

displaying on the mobile device the supplemental information overlaying the portion of the buffered version of the first video feed associated with the target camera.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein:

the one or more group devices include a second mobile device different from the mobile device; and

the supplemental information includes diagrams provided by a second spectator of the second mobile device.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein:

the determining one or more group devices includes determining the one or more group devices based on a physical location of each of the one or more group devices at the live event.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein:

the determining if a break in action at the live event occurred at the first point in time includes determining whether a game clock associated with the live event has been stopped at the first point in time.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein:

the detecting a physical gesture includes detecting a static gesture involving a particular orientation of the mobile device.
