1. A method, implemented in a network entity, of data flow splitting with local data caching, the method comprising:
- caching data in at least one local data storage, each local data storage site connected to a network node;
receiving feedback regarding delivery statistics of split-data transmission; and
coordinating with a cooperating base station for split data transmission of cached data to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) from the cooperating base station and a base station co-located with the network entity,wherein the data is split between local data storages at the cooperating base station and the base station and,wherein the feedback is received from at least the cooperating base station and the base station.

Abstract
Methods and apparatus for local data caching are disclosed. Data may be stored in a local data storage connected to a base station or network nodes. The data flow may be split. The base station may coordinate with a cooperating base station for split-data transmission of locally cached data. Data may be split at different layers.

3. A method, implemented in an application function entity, for edge caching, comprising:
-
intercepting application signaling for a service; querying a file name server to determine if data is cached at a content server; receiving a response with respect to storing of the data at the content server, wherein IP flow bypasses certain network nodes on a condition that requested data is on the content server; and transmitting data caching status at the least one content server, content server address, and address of closest network node to the at least one content server to a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) entity, wherein the closest network node includes at least Internet Protocol (IP) flow based routing policies. - View Dependent Claims (4)

5. A system for edge caching, comprising:
-
at least one content server associated with a network entity; an application function entity configured to intercept application signaling of a service from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); a file name server configured to determine data contents of the at least one content server, wherein IP flow bypasses certain network nodes on a condition that requested data is on the at least one content server; an interface configured to communicate between the application function and the file name server; and a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) entity configured to communicate with the application function entity, wherein the application function entity transmits data caching status at the least one content server, content server address, and address of closest network node to the at least one content server, wherein the closest network node includes at least Internet Protocol (IP) flow based routing policies. - View Dependent Claims (6, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A method for determining policies for data flows, comprising:
-
receiving from an application function entity content server information for at least one data flow; determining policies for each data flow based on the content server information; and sending the policies for each data flow to a network entity. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18)
