Abstract

A display apparatus including a display unit, adapted to playback a sequence of images, comprises: a detection configured to detect an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit; a control unit configured to control the display unit to pause playback of the sequence of images, if the detected attitude of the display apparatus is not substantially aligned with the orientation of an image to be displayed.

Claims

1. A display apparatus including a display unit, arranged to playback a sequence of images, comprising:

a detection unit configured to detect an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit;

a control unit configured to control the display unit to pause playback of the sequence of images, if the detected attitude of the display apparatus is not substantially aligned with the orientation of an image to be displayed.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein the control unit controls the display unit, so that an image to be displayed is oriented according to the attitude detected by the detection unit and the orientation obtained of the image.

3. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the orientation of the image to be displayed is determined based on information included with the image indicating the attitude of an image pickup apparatus upon capturing the image.

An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein, if after pausing of the playback of the sequence of images, the detection unit detects a change in attitude of the display apparatus to be substantially aligned with the orientation of an image to be displayed, the control unit controls the display unit to resume playback of said sequence of images.

An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein in a case where the orientation of the current image to be displayed coincides with the orientation of the preceding image displayed, and the attitude of the display apparatus at the time of the playback of the preceding image is the same as the attitude detected by the detection unit when playing back the current image, the control unit is adapted to control playback of the current image without pausing following the playback of the preceding image.

6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the information of the orientation comprises information representing a top and/or bottom direction of the image.

7. An apparatus according to claim 1, further arranged to display an orientation icon indicating the orientation of an image when displaying the image in the paused playback state.

8. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the display apparatus comprises an image pickup apparatus including an image pickup unit.

10. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program that causes a computer to function as each unit of a display apparatus of claim 1.

9. A control method of a display apparatus including a display unit adapted to playback a sequence of images, comprising:

a detection step of detecting an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit;

a control step of controlling said display unit to pause playback of said sequence of images, if the detected attitude of the display apparatus is not substantially aligned with the orientation of an image to be displayed.

11. A display apparatus including a display unit arranged to playback a sequence of images, comprising:

a detection unit that detects an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit; and

a control unit adapted to control said display unit to play back a second image continuously following playback of a first image, if the orientation of the first image corresponds with the orientation of the second image, and to pause playback of the second image if the orientation of the first image does not correspond with the orientation of the second image.

An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said control unit is adapted to control said display unit to play back a second image without pausing following playback of a first image, if the attitude of the display apparatus at the time of the playback of the first image is the same as the attitude detected by the detection unit when playing back the second image.

13. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the orientation of the second image is determined based on information included with the image indicating the attitude of an image pickup apparatus upon capturing the image.

14. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the information of the orientation comprises information representing a top and/or bottom direction of the image.

15. An apparatus according to claim 11, further arranged to display an orientation icon indicating the orientation of an image when displaying the image in the paused playback state.

16. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the display apparatus comprises an image pickup apparatus including an image pickup unit.

18. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program that causes a computer to function as each unit of a display apparatus of claim 11.

17. A control method of a display apparatus including a display unit, comprising:

a detection step of detecting an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit; and

a control step of controlling to play back a second image without pausing following playback of a first image, if the orientation of the first image corresponds with the orientation of the second image, and to pause playback of the second image if the orientation of the first image does not correspond with the orientation of the second image.

19. A display apparatus including a display unit, arranged to playback an image sequence, comprising:

a detection unit that detects an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit;

an obtaining unit that obtains information of a time of length of the image sequence to be played back; and

a control unit adapted to control said display to play back the image sequence to be oriented irrespectively of the attitude detected by the detection unit if the time of length of the image sequence obtained by the obtaining unit is greater than or equal to a predetermined time, and to rotate the image sequence in accordance with the attitude detected by the detection unit and display the image sequence on the display unit if the time of length of the image sequence obtained by the obtaining unit is less than the predetermined time.

20. An apparatus according to claim 19, wherein the obtaining unit further obtains information of an orientation of the image sequence, and

if the time of length of the image sequence obtained by the obtaining unit is less than the predetermined time, the control unit is adapted to rotate the image sequence in accordance with a relationship between the information of the orientation and the attitude detected by the detection unit.

An apparatus according to claim 19, wherein if the time of length of the image sequence is less than the predetermined time, the control unit is adapted not to rotate the image sequence even if the attitude detected by the detection unit changes while the image sequence is displayed on the display unit.

22. An apparatus according to claim 19, wherein if the time of length of the image sequence is less than the predetermined time, the apparatus is adapted to display to a user a prompt not to change the attitude of the display apparatus and/or the display unit.

An apparatus according to claim 20, wherein when the time of length of the image sequence is greater than or equal to the predetermined time, and the attitude detected by the detection unit does not correspond with the information of the orientation of the image sequence, the apparatus is adapted to display to a user a prompt to change the attitude of the display apparatus and/or the display unit.

25. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program that causes a computer to function as each unit of a display apparatus of claim 19.

24. A control method of playback of an image sequence on a display apparatus including a display unit, comprising:

a detection step of detecting an attitude of the display apparatus or the display unit;

an obtaining step of obtaining information of a time of length of the image sequence to be played back; and

a control step of controlling to play back, on the display unit, the image sequence to be oriented irrespectively of the attitude detected in the detection step if the time of length of the image sequence obtained in the obtaining step is greater than or equal to a predetermined time, and to rotate the image sequence in accordance with the attitude detected in the detection step and display the image sequence on the display unit if the time of length of the image sequence obtained in the obtaining step is less than the predetermined time.
