Abstract

Multi-layered paint on a border of a surface acoustic wave touch device may reduce attenuation. The touch substrate has a front surface and a back surface where the front surface has a touch region. Multi-layered paint is formed on the back surface to form a border along the touch substrate. The multi-layered paint includes a mirror layer and a color layer. The surface acoustic waves propagate over at least a portion of the border region such that the surface acoustic waves propagate on the multi-layered paint without excessive wave attenuation.

21. A method for forming a surface acoustic wave touch device, the method comprising:

forming a multi-layered material stack of light reflective material and color material on a border region of a touch substrate; and

positioning a transducer to propagate surface acoustic waves on the multi-layered material stack and the touch substrate in a desired pattern.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein forming comprises:

depositing the color material on the touch substrate,

depositing the light reflective material comprising a minor material on the color material, and

sintering the stack.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein foi ing comprises depositing the color material as a white paint.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein positioning comprises placing the transducer on the multi-layered material stack.

25. The method of claim 21, wherein the touch substrate comprises glass.

26. The method of claim 21, wherein the touch substrate defines a front surface and a back surface, and wherein the multi-layered material stack is formed on the back surface.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein positioning the transducer comprises positioning the transducer to propagate surface acoustic waves on the front surface over at least a portion of the border region such that the surface acoustic waves propagate on the multi-layered material stack.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the touch substrate comprises a rounded connecting surface connecting the front and back surfaces, the surface acoustic waves propagating over the rounded connecting surface.

29. The method of claim 26, wherein the color material is between the back surface and the light reflective material.

30. The method of claim 26, wherein positioning comprises placing the transducer on the multi-layered material stack such that the multi-layered material stack prevents viewing of the transducer through the front surface.

31. The method of claim 21, wherein the light reflective material comprises a non-white layer.

32. The method of claim 21, wherein the light reflective material comprises a mirror layer formed from fired paint.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein the fired paint is formed with aluminum flakes.

34. The method of claim 21, wherein the multi-layered material stack is less than 50 microns thick and has an optical density greater than about 2.0.

35. The method of claim 21, wherein the multi-layered material stack comprises dried ink.
