Abstract

Aspects describe renegotiation of quality of service parameters to resolve maximum bit rate mismatches and/or other quality of service parameter mismatching issues that might arise during an inter-radio access technology handover. At about the same time as a mobile device moves from a source network to a target network, the target network dynamically initiates a quality of service modification procedure. The quality of service modification procedure can help resolve the maximum bit rate mismatches and/or the other quality of service parameter mismatching issues.

Claims

2. A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising;

determining that a first data rate supported by a device, which transferred a connection from a set of source devices of a source network to a set of target devices of a target network, is a higher rate than a second data rate supported by the set of source devices;

determining that a third data rate supported by the set of target devices is a higher rate than the second data rate; and

determining a fourth data rate for the device to apply to the connection to the set of target devices, wherein the fourth data rate is between the second data rate and the third data rate.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise determining the fourth data rate to be equal to the first data rate, and wherein the third data rate is a higher rate than the first data rate.

The system of claim 2, wherein the second data rate comprises a first maximum bit rate and the third data rate comprises a second maximum bit rate, and the operations further comprise determining the fourth data rate based on an analysis of the first maximum bit rate and the second maximum bit rate.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the operations further comprise determining a third maximum bit rate for the fourth data rate.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise communicating to the device a maximum bit rate and an assigned value for conflict resolution in response to the device and another device requesting a resource of the set of target devices.

7. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise assigning, to the device, a highest available data rate selected from a group of rates comprising the first data rate, the second data rate, and the third data rate.

8. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving information related to a device identity, a first location of the device, and a second location of the device; and

determining the fourth data rate based on a compatibility of the device at the first location and the second location, wherein the compatibility is determined as a function of the device identity and the first data rate.

9. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise:

performing a comparison between the first data rate, the second data rate, and the third data rate; and

based on the comparison, initiating modification of a mismatch determined to have occurred after the connection is determined to have been transferred from the set of source devices to the set of target devices.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the initiating the modification comprises determining an opportunity to increase a bit rate, resulting in the fourth data rate.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the initiating the modification comprises determining an amount of inequality between the second data rate and the third data rate.

12. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further comprise initiating transmission of the fourth data rate to the device.

13. A method, comprising:

determining, by a system comprising a processor, that a first data rate supported by a device is higher than a second data rate supported by a first set of devices of a first network; and

negotiating, by the system, a third data rate for the device, wherein the third data rate is an available data rate between the first data rate and a fourth data rate supported by a second set of devices of a second network different than the first network.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

initiating, by the system, a modification of a context of quality of service parameters; and

synchronizing, by the system, the first data rate and the fourth data rate, resulting in the third data rate.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the initiating comprises initiating the modification of the context based on a determination that a communication of the device is to be transferred from the first set of devices to the second set of devices.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the synchronizing comprises:

based on determining that the first data rate is higher than the fourth data rate, setting the third data rate to the fourth data rate.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the synchronizing comprises resolving a quality of service mismatch between a first quality of service supported by the first set of devices and a second quality of service supported by the second set of devices.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein the synchronizing comprises resolving a bit rate difference between a first bit rate supported by the device, a second bit rate supported by the first set of devices, and a third bit rate supported by the second set of devices.

19. A computer-readable storage device storing executable instructions that, in response to execution, cause a system comprising a processor to perform operations, comprising:

determining, based upon a communication of a device determined to have been transferred from a first set of devices of a first network to a second set of devices of a second network, a difference between a first data rate determined to be supported by the device, a second data rate determined to be supported by the first set of devices, and a third data rate determined to be supported by the second set of devices; and

determining a fourth data rate for the device, wherein the first data rate and the third data rate are a higher rate than the second data rate and the fourth data rate is determined to be a higher one of the first data rate and the third data rate.

The computer-readable storage device of claim 19, wherein the second data rate comprises a first maximum bit rate and the third data rate comprises a second maximum bit rate, the operations further comprise determining the fourth data rate based on an analysis of the first maximum bit rate and the second maximum bit rate.

21. The computer-readable storage device of claim 19, wherein the operations further comprise communicating to the device a maximum bit rate and an assigned value for conflict resolution in response to the device and another device requesting a resource of the second set of devices.
