Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus for use in connection with at least one virtual agent. In some embodiments, at least one processor is programmed to: intercept user input to a messaging application executing on the at least one processor and facilitating a multiparty conversation; and in response to detecting a trigger in the user input, inject the at least one virtual agent into the multiparty conversation facilitated by the messaging application.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising at least one processor programmed by one or more executable instructions to implement at least one virtual agent, the at least one processor being further programmed to:

intercept user input to a messaging application executing on the at least one processor and facilitating a multiparty conversation; and

in response to detecting a trigger in the user input, inject the at least one virtual agent into the multiparty conversation facilitated by the messaging application.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the trigger comprises a word or phrase designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the user input comprises textual input entered via at least one keyboard, and wherein the at least one processor is programmed to intercept the textual input provided from the at least one keyboard to the messaging application.

4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the user input comprises user speech that is recognized as text by at least one automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine, and wherein the at least one processor is programmed to intercept the text provided from the ASR engine to the messaging application.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the user input comprises touchscreen input and the trigger comprises a gesture designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the user input comprises keyboard input and the trigger comprises a keystroke or a combination of keystrokes designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is programmed to inject the at least one virtual agent into the conversation at least in part by communicating with a server of the messaging application using a same interface as a client of the messaging application used by a human.

8. A method performed by at least one processor in connection with at least one virtual agent, the method comprising acts of:

intercepting user input to a messaging application executing on the at least one processor and facilitating a multiparty conversation; and

in response to detecting a trigger in the user input, injecting the at least one virtual agent into the multiparty conversation facilitated by the messaging application.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the trigger comprises a word or phrase designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the user input comprises textual input entered via at least one keyboard, and wherein intercepting the user input comprises intercepting the textual input provided from the at least one keyboard to the messaging application.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the user input comprises user speech that is recognized as text by at least one automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine, and wherein intercepting the user input comprises intercepting the text provided from the ASR engine to the messaging application.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the user input comprises touchscreen input and the trigger comprises a gesture designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the user input comprises keyboard input and the trigger comprises a keystroke or a combination of keystrokes designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein injecting the at least one virtual agent into the conversation comprises communicating with a server of the messaging application using a same interface as a client of the messaging application used by a human.

15. At least one computer-readable medium having encoded thereon instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, perform a method for use in connection with at least one virtual agent, the method comprising acts of:

intercepting user input to a messaging application executing on the at least one processor and facilitating a multiparty conversation; and

in response to detecting a trigger in the user input, injecting the at least one virtual agent into the multiparty conversation facilitated by the messaging application.

16. The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the trigger comprises a word or phrase designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

17. The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the user input comprises textual input entered via at least one keyboard, and wherein intercepting the user input comprises intercepting the textual input provided from the at least one keyboard to the messaging application.

The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the user input comprises user speech that is recognized as text by at least one automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine, and wherein intercepting the user input comprises intercepting the text provided from the ASR engine to the messaging application.

19. The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the user input comprises touchscreen input and the trigger comprises a gesture designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.

20. The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the user input comprises keyboard input and the trigger comprises a keystroke or a combination of keystrokes designated for invoking the at least one virtual agent.
