Abstract

An apparatus and method for creative wallpaper are provided. The method includes presenting a first desktop environment in which icons, menus, applications, or functions can be located and invoked, presenting an uncoverer for revealing a second desktop environment in which icons, menus, applications, or functions can be located and invoked, and if the uncoverer is selected and executed, progressively removing the first desktop environment to reveal the second desktop environment underneath.

Claims

1. A method for managing a desktop environment, the method comprising:

presenting a first desktop environment in which icons, menus, applications, or functions can be located and invoked;

presenting an uncoverer for revealing a second desktop environment in which icons, menus, applications, or functions can be located and invoked; and

if the uncoverer is selected and executed, progressively removing the first desktop environment to reveal the second desktop environment underneath.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the progressive removal of the first desktop environment comprises separating the first desktop environment into one or more parts and moving the parts away from each other towards one or more edges of a display.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein an icon, menu, application, or function on the first desktop or on the second desktop may be selected and invoked whenever visible.

4. The method of claim 3, where an icon, menu, application, or function on the first desktop and an icon, menu, application, or function on the second desktop are concurrently visible and selectable.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein a plurality of uncoverers are presented, wherein each of the plurality of uncoverers reveals a different corresponding second desktop when selected and executed.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a plurality of users may each configure one or more uncoverer and corresponding second desktop.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein a second desktop is lockable.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the uncoverer is a visible feature on the desktop.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the uncoverer may be invoked to progressively conceal the second desktop environment and return the first desktop environment.

10. A method of modifying a desktop wallpaper, the method comprising:

selecting a cutout function;

delineating an enclosed area on the wallpaper;

selecting a content; and

inserting the content in the delineated area.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising linking the inserted content to another function, application, or data.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the other function, application, or data may be selected by selecting the delineated area.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the selecting of the cutout function comprises selecting a predetermined input of a mouse, stylus, or menu.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the selecting of the cutout function comprises delineating the enclosed area in a nonselectable area of the desktop wallpaper.

15. A method of modifying a desktop wallpaper, the method comprising:

selecting a creative wallpaper mode;

writing or drawing directly on the desktop wallpaper.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the writing or drawing is saved independently of an image of the desktop wallpaper.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein an image is saved of the desktop wallpaper with the writing or drawing superimposed thereon.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the selection of the creative wallpaper mode comprises selecting a predetermined input of a mouse, stylus, or menu.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the selection of the creative wallpaper mode comprises writing or drawing in a nonselectable area of the desktop wallpaper.

20. A computer device comprising:

a controller;

a memory;

a display screen;

a first desktop environment displayed on the display screen; and

a second desktop environment covered by the first desktop environment,

wherein the first desktop environment may be progressively removed in one or more parts to reveal and enable the second desktop environment.

21. The computer device of claim 20, wherein the second desktop environment accesses and corresponds to a predetermined user directory in the memory.

22. The computer device of claim 20, wherein the removal of the first desktop environment is lockable.
