Abstract

Control of lighting fixtures in a lighting network may be distributed among the lighting fixtures. The lighting fixtures may be broken into groups that are associated with different lighting zones. At least some of the lighting fixtures will have or be associated with one or more sensors. Within the overall lighting network or the various lighting zones, the lighting fixtures may share sensor data from their sensors. Each lighting fixture may process sensor data provided by its own sensor, a remote standalone sensor, or lighting fixture, and process the sensor data according to the lighting fixture'"'"'s own internal logic to control operation of the lighting fixture. The lighting fixtures may also receive control input from other lighting fixtures, control nodes, light switches, and commissioning tools. The control input may be processed along with the sensor data according to the internal logic to further enhance control of the lighting fixture.

Claims

1. A lighting fixture comprising:

a light source; and

circuitry adapted to;

drive the light source to provide light output;

provide a routing table comprising a next hop address for each of a plurality of destination addresses wherein each next hop address is positioned in the routing table based on a corresponding one of the plurality of destination addresses such that the plurality of destination addresses are not used to access the routing table.

2. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the circuitry is further adapted to, when routing a data packet:

determine a position in the routing table based on a destination address of the data packet;

access the next hop address for the destination address based on the position in the routing table; and

route the data packet toward the next hop address.

3. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the plurality of destination addresses is not provided in the routing table.

4. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the next hop address for each of the plurality of destination addresses is positioned in the routing table in an order corresponding to a numerical ordering of the plurality of destination addresses.

5. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein to access the next hop address for the destination address, the circuitry uses the destination address as an index to identify the next hop address for the destination address from the routing table.

6. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein two or more of the plurality of destination addresses are assigned to other lighting fixtures in a lighting network.

7. The lighting fixture of claim 2 wherein the circuitry is further adapted to receive the data packet from a first lighting fixture and the data packet is routed toward a second lighting fixture via the next hop address.

8. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the routing table further comprises a number of hops for each next hop address.

9. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the lighting fixture is one of a plurality of nodes in a lighting network and each node of the plurality of nodes is assigned an address, which corresponds to a destination address for data packets being routed to the node.

10. The lighting fixture of claim 9 wherein a number of the plurality of nodes corresponds to a number of positions in the routing table.

11. The lighting fixture of claim 10 wherein a value of each destination address directly corresponds to a position in the routing table that contains a corresponding next hop address.

12. The lighting fixture of claim 1 wherein the light source is a solid-state light source.

13. A lighting fixture comprising:

a light source; and

circuitry adapted to;

drive the light source to provide light output;

provide a routing table comprising a first section and a second section wherein;

the first section comprises a next hop address for each of a plurality of groups of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture does not belong; and

the second section comprises a next hop address corresponding to each of a plurality of destination addresses associated with a group of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture belongs.

14. The lighting fixture of claim 13 wherein the second section comprises each of the plurality of destination addresses in association with the corresponding next hop address.

15. The lighting fixture of claim 13 wherein each next hop address is positioned in the routing table based on a corresponding one of the plurality of destination addresses such that the plurality of destination addresses are not used to access the routing table.

16. The lighting fixture of claim 13 wherein the circuitry is further adapted to, when routing a data packet:

if the data packet is intended for one of the plurality of groups of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture does not belong, access the first section and determine the next hop address based on the one of the plurality of groups of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture does not belong;

if the data packet is intended for the group of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture belongs, access the second section to determine the next hop address for the data packet; and

route the data packet toward the next hop address.

The lighting fixture of claim 13 wherein in the second section, each next hop address has a position in the routing table based on a corresponding one of the plurality of destination addresses such that the plurality of destination addresses are not used to access the routing table, and the circuitry is further adapted to, when routing a data packet:

if the data packet is intended for one of the plurality of groups of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture does not belong, access the first section and determine the next hop address based on the one of the plurality of groups of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture does not belong;

if the data packet is intended for the group of lighting fixtures to which the lighting fixture belongs, access the next hop address for the destination address based on the position in the routing table; and

route the data packet toward the next hop address.

18. The lighting fixture of claim 16 wherein the plurality of destination addresses is not provided in the second section.

19. The lighting fixture of claim 17 wherein the next hop address for each of the plurality of destination addresses is positioned in the second section in an order corresponding to a numerical ordering of the plurality of destination addresses.

20. The lighting fixture of claim 17 wherein to access the next hop address for the destination address in the second section, the circuitry uses the destination address as an index to identify the next hop address for the destination address.

21. The lighting fixture of claim 13 wherein the light source is a solid-state light source.

22. A lighting fixture comprising:

a light source; and

circuitry adapted to;

drive the light source to provide light output; and

provide routing criteria comprising a next hop address for each of at least two ranges of destination addresses.

23. The lighting fixture of claim 22 wherein the circuitry is further adapted to, when routing a data packet toward one of the at least two ranges of destination addresses:

determine a destination address for the data packet,

select a next hop address from the routing criteria based on the one of the at least two ranges of destination addresses in which the destination address falls; and

route the data packet toward the next hop address.

24. The lighting fixture of claim 23 wherein the routing criteria further comprise a next hop address for at least one destination address.

25. The lighting fixture of claim 24 wherein the circuitry is further adapted to, when routing a data packet toward at least one destination address:

determine the at least one destination address for the data packet,

select a next hop address from the routing criteria based on the at least one destination address; and

route the data packet toward the next hop address.

26. The lighting fixture of claim 22 wherein the light source is a solid-state light source.
