1. A wound closure system for the treatment of an open wound on the skin of a human subject the system including:
- first, second and third adhesive pads designed for attachment to the skin of the patient, the first and second pad being initially adhesively attached to the skin on opposite sides of the patient'"'"'s wound;
the first and second adhesive pads being rectangular or curved depending upon whether the wound is essentially a linear cut or there is a significant area of the wound that should be closed;
the first and third adhesive pads being fixedly attached to each other by means of two flat straps and the wound closure system being designed so that the flat straps slide through the second adhesive pad that is situated between the first and third adhesive pads;
the wound closure system causing the wound to be closed by using the third adhesive pad to pull on the flat straps to cause the first and second pads to come towards each other so as to create compression of the skin around the wound; and
adhesively attaching the third adhesive pad to the subject'"'"'s skin.
