Abstract

The present embodiments provide systems and methods for deploying at least a portion of a stent, comprising a retaining member having a main body. At least one slot is formed into the main body. The at least one slot comprises a circumferentially enclosed segment and an axial opening. A portion of a stent is restrained from moving radially outward when disposed within the circumferentially enclosed segment, and the portion of the stent is self-expandable radially outward when aligned with the axial opening.

Claims

1. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a retaining member comprising a main body having first and second ends;

at least one slot formed into the main body, the at least one slot comprising a circumferentially enclosed segment and an axial opening; and

a stent comprising a portion having a first width that is less than a second width of the axial opening of the retaining member,

where the stent is restrained from moving radially outward when disposed within the circumferentially enclosed segment, and where the portion of the stent is self-expandable radially outward when aligned with the axial opening.

2. The system of claim 1 further comprising a cannula having an outer surface, where at least a portion of the retaining member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula.

3. The system of claim 2, where circumferential rotation of the cannula relative to the stent causes corresponding rotation of the retaining member relative to the stent, thereby rotating the portion of the stent within the circumferentially enclosed segment of the slot.

4. The system of claim 2, where the main body of the retaining member comprises a lumen extending between the first and second ends, where the cannula extends through the lumen of the retaining member.

5. The system of claim 2, where the second end of the main body of the retaining member is tapered radially inward towards the cannula.

6. The system of claim 1, where the axial opening extends longitudinally between the first and second ends of the main body of the retaining member.

7. The system of claim 1, where the stent comprises at least one coupling portion comprising a longitudinal strut portion, where the longitudinal strut portion has the first width that is less than the second width of the axial opening of the retaining member.

8. The system of claim 7, where the coupling portion extends proximally from a proximal apex of the stent.

9. The system of claim 7, where the coupling portion further comprises at least one of a lateral or rounded projection.

10. The system of claim 9, where a lateral projection is provided, and the longitudinal strut portion and the lateral projection of the coupling portion collectively form a “

t”

shape.

11. The system of claim 9, where the at least one of a lateral or rounded projection is disposed proximal to the first end of the main body of the retaining member when the stent is restrained.

12. A method for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the method comprising:

providing a retaining member comprising a main body having first and second ends, and at least one slot formed into the main body, the at least one slot comprising a circumferentially enclosed segment and an axial opening;

positioning a portion of a stent within the axial opening of the retaining member, and subsequently within the circumferentially enclosed segment, thereby radially restraining the portion of the stent in a compressed state; and

rotating the retaining member relative to the stent, thereby aligning the portion of the stent with the axial opening and permitting the stent to self-expand radially outward.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising providing a cannula having an outer surface, where at least a portion of the retaining member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula.

14. The method of claim 12, where the stent comprises at least one coupling portion comprising a longitudinal strut portion having a first width that is less than a second width of the axial opening of the retaining member.

15. The method of claim 14, where the coupling portion extends proximally from a proximal apex of the stent.

16. The method of claim 14, where the coupling portion further comprises at least one of a lateral or rounded projection.

17. The method of claim 16, where a lateral projection is provided, and the longitudinal strut portion and the lateral projection of the coupling portion collectively form a “

t”

shape.

18. The method of claim 16 further comprising positioning the at least one of a lateral or rounded projection proximal to a proximal end of the main body of the retaining member when the stent is restrained.

19. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

an inner cannula;

an outer cannula that is longitudinally movable with respect to the inner cannula;

a retaining member comprising a main body having proximal and distal ends, where at least a portion of the retaining member is secured to an outer surface of the outer cannula;

an atraumatic tip coupled to the inner cannula at a location distal to the retaining member; and

a stent that is removably coupled to the retaining member by rotating the outer cannula and the retaining member relative to the stent,

where at least a portion of the stent is disposed proximally beyond the proximal end of the retaining member and distal to the atraumatic tip.

The system of claim 19 further comprising at least one slot formed into the main body, the at least one slot comprising a circumferentially enclosed segment and an axial opening, and where the stent is restrained from moving radially outward when disposed within the circumferentially enclosed segment, and where the portion of the stent is self-expandable radially outward when aligned with the axial opening.
