Abstract

A video window detector includes a region characteristic determiner to generate at least one characteristic value for at least one region of a display output; a characteristic map generator to generate an image map from the at least one characteristic value for at least one region of the display output; and a window detector to detect at least one video window dependent on the image map.

Claims

1. A video detection method comprising:

providing first and second video windows, wherein the first video window overlaps the second video window; and

using horizontal and vertical continuous edges within an overlap video region to create separations between the first and second video windows.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein a continuous horizontal edge value of the overlap video region is determined.

3. The method as claimed in claim 2 wherein the continuous horizontal edge is derived by combining individual region continuous horizontal edge values.

4. The method as claimed in claim 3 wherein an individual region continuous horizontal edge is derived by vertically combining individual pixel horizontal edges.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein a motion value of the overlap region is determined.

6. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein a continuous vertical edge value of the overlap video region is determined.

7. The method as claimed in claim 6 wherein the continuous vertical edge value is derived by combining individual region continuous vertical edge values.

8. The method as claimed in claim 7 wherein an individual region continuous vertical edge value is derived by horizontally combining individual pixel vertical edges.

9. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein both the continuous horizontal edge and the continuous vertical edge are used in combination to create separation between the two overlapping windows.

10. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a fine edge detection.

11. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a pause detection.

12. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a full screen detection.

13. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a plurality of overlapping windows.

14. A video detection method comprising:

providing first and second video windows, wherein the first video window overlaps the second video window; and

using a horizontal and vertical continuous static area within an overlap region to create separations between the first and second video windows.

15. The method as claimed in claim 14 wherein a motion value of the overlap region is determined.

16. The method as claimed in claim 14 wherein a continuous horizontal static value of the overlap video region is determined.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16 wherein a continuous horizontal static area is derived by combining individual region continuous horizontal static area values.

18. The method as claimed in claim 17 wherein an individual region continuous horizontal static area is derived by vertically combining individual pixel static values.

19. The method as claimed in claim 14 wherein a continuous vertical static value of the overlap video region is determined.

20. The method as claimed in claim 19 wherein the continuous vertical static area is derived by combining individual region continuous vertical static area values.

21. The method as claimed in claim 20 wherein an individual region continuous vertical static area is derived by horizontally combining individual pixel static values.

22. The method as claimed in claim 14 wherein both the continuous horizontal static area and the continuous vertical static area are used in combination to create separation between the overlapping windows.

23. The method as claimed in claim 14 further comprising a fine edge detection.

24. The method as claimed in claim 14 further comprising a pause detection.

25. The method as claimed in claim 14 further comprising a full screen detection.

26. The method as claimed in claim 14 further comprising a plurality of overlapping windows.
