Locating And Addressing Communication Devices
First Claim
1. A system comprising:
- a first-network subsystem including a first-network device with knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the first-network subsystem; and
a second-network subsystem including a second-network device initially without knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the second-network subsystem, the second-network device having a known spatial relationship with the first-network device, wherein the first-network device is configured to communicate its physical location to the second-network device, andwherein the second-network device is configured to derive at least partially its physical location based on the physical location of the first-network device, and the known spatial relationship between the first- and second-network devices, the second-network device being further configured to receive an assignment of its logical address within the second-network subsystem using its derived physical location.

Abstract
A system is provided that includes first- and second-network subsystems. The first-network subsystem includes a first-network device with knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the first-network subsystem. The second-network subsystem includes a second-network device initially without knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the second-network subsystem. The second-network device has a known spatial relationship with the first-network device. The first-network device is configured to communicate its physical location to the second-network device, which is configured to derive at least partially its physical location based on the physical location of the first-network device, and the known spatial relationship between the first- and second-network devices. The second-network device is further configured to receive an assignment of its logical address within the second-network subsystem using its derived physical location.

6. A communication device comprising a processor and a memory storing computer-readable program code portions that, in response to execution by the processor, cause the communication device to at least:
-
receive a physical location of a network device of a network subsystem, the communication device being outside the network subsystem and having a known spatial relationship with the network device, the communication device being a second-network device of a second-network subsystem, or a remote device outside of any network subsystem; derive at least partially its physical location based on the physical location of the network device, and the known spatial relationship between the communication device and network device; and store its derived physical location. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10)

11. A method of communicating within a system comprising a first-network subsystem including a first-network device with knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the first-network subsystem, and a second-network subsystem including a second-network device initially without knowledge of its physical location and assigned logical address within the second-network subsystem, the second-network device having a known spatial relationship with the first-network device, the method comprising:
-
the first-network device communicating its physical location to the second-network device; the second-network device deriving at least partially its physical location based on the physical location of the first-network device, and the known spatial relationship between the first- and second-network devices; and the second-network device receiving an assignment of its logical address within the second-network subsystem using its derived physical location. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15)
