Abstract

The disclosed embodiments include a network management system for managing communications of a wireless device. The network management system includes memory for storing data and executable instructions; and a processing component in communication with the memory. In one embodiment, the processing component configured to execute the executable instructions to perform operations such as, but not limited to, receiving network performance information from a plurality of wireless access points; and sending an instruction to the wireless device that modifies at least one wireless connectivity parameter of the wireless device to improve communications on the wireless device based on the network performance information.

Claims

1. A network management system for managing communications of a wireless device;

the network management System comprising;

memory for storing data and executable instructions;

a processing component in communication with the memory, the processing component configured to execute the executable instructions to perform operations comprising;

receiving network performance information from a plurality of wireless access points; and

sending an instruction to the wireless device that modifies at least one wireless connectivity parameter of the wireless device to improve communications on the wireless device based on the network performance information.

2. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is a wireless channel.

3. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is an encryption level.

4. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is a connectivity mode.

5. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprises switching the communications of the wireless device from a first internet service provider to a second internet service provider.

6. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprises receiving a user initiated request from the wireless device for determining why a signal strength is degrading, and based on the network performance information, determining a potential cause of the degrading of the signal strength.

7. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the network performance information includes information indicating that data is being buffered at the wireless access point due to network congestion.

8. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprises using the network performance information in provisioning network resources.

9. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprises using the network performance information to determine where additional wireless access points may be desired to alleviate congestion.

10. The network management system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprises automatically initiating a test on a wireless access point based on the network performance information.

11. A computer implemented method for managing communications of a wireless device;

the computer implemented method comprising;

receiving network performance information from a plurality of wireless access points; and

sending an instruction to the wireless device that modifies at least one wireless connectivity parameter of the wireless device to improve communications on the wireless device based on the network performance information.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 11, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is a wireless channel.

13. The computer implemented method of claim 11, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is an encryption level.

14. The computer implemented method of claim 11, wherein the at least one wireless connectivity parameter is a connectivity mode.

15. The computer implemented method of claim 11 further comprising switching the communications of the wireless device from a first internet service provider to a second internet service provider.

16. The computer implemented method of claim 11 further comprising receiving a user initiated request from the wireless device for determining why a signal strength is degrading, and based on the network performance information, determining a potential cause of the degrading of the signal strength.

17. The computer implemented method of claim 11, wherein the network performance information includes information indicating that data is being buffered at the wireless access point due to network congestion.

18. The computer implemented method of claim 11 further comprising using the network performance information in provisioning network resources.

19. The computer implemented method of claim 11 further comprising using the network performance information to determine where additional wireless access points may be desired to alleviate congestion.

20. The computer implemented method of claim 11 further comprising automatically initiating a test on a wireless access point based on the network performance information.
