Abstract

This document describes methods, systems and computer program products related to cloud-based rendering. The subject matter of this document is embodied in a method that includes receiving, at a server from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame, and storing the files related to the rendering of the frame at storage locations local to the server. The files are stored in accordance with an organization of the files on a remote computing device associated with the remote client application. The method also includes rendering the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files, and making the rendered frame available to the remote client application.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a server from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

storing the files related to the rendering of the frame at storage locations local to the server, in accordance with an organization of the files on a remote computing device associated with the remote client application;

rendering the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files; and

making the rendered frame available to the remote client application.

2. The method of claim 1 comprising:

detecting, within one of the files, a first script identifying a first storage location on the remote computing device; and

replacing the first script with a second script identifying a second storage location local to the server.

3. The method of claim 1 comprising determining that a file required for rendering the frame is not one of the received files.

4. The method of claim 3 comprising requesting the client application to provide the required file.

5. The method of claim 3 comprising retrieving the required file from a storage location determined based on a file-type of the required file.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the storage location is a networked storage location associated with the file-type.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the rendering application is determined based on an image-editing application associated with the remote computing device.

8. The method of claim 7 comprising providing a plug-in for the image-editing application, to integrate a control within a user-interface of the image-editing application, the control facilitating communications between the image-editing application and the client application.

9. The method of claim 1 comprising allocating between two or more processors, computations associated with rendering the frame.

10. The method of claim 9 comprising rendering the frame from computation results from the two or more processors.

11. The method of claim 1, comprising managing licensing and usage tracking of the rendering application.

12. The method of claim 1, comprising providing files for installing the client application on the remote computing device.

13. The method of claim 1 comprising storing a copy of the frame at a storage location local to the server.

14. A method comprising:

integrating within a user-interface of an image-editing application, a control to facilitate communications between the image-editing application and a client application on a computing device;

receiving through the control, user-entered information associated with rendering of a frame; and

providing the information to the client application for use in communicating with a remote computing device that renders the frame based on files provided by the client application.

15. The method of claim 14 comprising receiving a plug-in for installing the control within a user-interface of the image-editing application.

16. The method of claim 14 comprising receiving the frame from the client application, as rendered by the remote computing device.

17. The method of claim 14 comprising providing information on the files to the client application.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein the user-entered information includes an indication that the frame is to be rendered.

19. The method of claim 14 comprising launching the client application after receiving the user-entered information, upon determining that the client application is not executing on the computing device.

20. A method comprising:

receiving, at a client application executing on a computing device from an image-editing application executing on the computing device, information that is associated with rendering of a frame;

determining, based on the information, locations of files associated with the rendering;

providing the files to a remote server; and

receiving from the remote server the frame as rendered from the files provided to the remote server.

21. The method of claim 20, comprising polling the remote server for a communication.

22. The method of claim 20, comprising providing an additional file to the remote server based on determining, from a communication from the remote server, that the remote server is requesting the additional file.

23. The method of claim 20 comprising providing a notification to the remote server that an additional file is not available on the computing device, based on determining, from a communication from the remote server, that the remote server is requesting the additional file.

24. The method of claim 20 comprising providing to the remote server, information associated with the locations of the files on the computing device.

25. The method of claim 21 wherein the communication indicates that the frame, as rendered, is available for download to the computing device.

26. The method of claim 21 wherein the communication provides information on a status of the rendering.

27. The method of claim 20 comprising providing to the remote server, information associated with the image-editing application on the computing device.

28. A method comprising:

receiving, at a server from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

rendering the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files;

determining a cost associated with using the rendering application; and

providing a notification of the cost to the remote client application.

29. The method of claim 28 comprising making the frame, as rendered from the files, available to the remote client application.

30. The method of claim 28 comprising initiating a communication with a vendor of the rendering application.

31. The method of claim 28, wherein the cost is determined in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.

32. The method of claim 28 comprising using the rendering application in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.

33. A system comprising:

a storage device; and

a computing device connected to the storage device, the computing device comprising memory and a processor, the computing device configured to;

receive from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

store the files on the storage device, in accordance with an organization of the files on a remote computing device associated with the remote client application;

render the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files; and

make the rendered frame available to the remote client application.

34. The system of claim 33 wherein the computing device is configured to:

detect, within one of the files, a first script identifying a first storage location on the remote computing device; and

replace the first script with a second script identifying a second storage location on the storage device.

35. The system of claim 33 wherein the computing device is configured to allocate between two or more processors, computations associated with rendering the frame.

36. The system of claim 35 wherein the computing device is configured to render the frame from computation results from the two or more processors.

37. The system of claim 33, wherein the computing device is configured to manage licensing and usage tracking of the rendering application.

38. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device encoded with instructions, which upon execution by one or more processors, causes operations comprising:

receiving, at a server from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

storing the files related to the rendering of the frame at storage locations local to the server, in accordance with an organization of the files on a remote computing device associated with the remote client application;

rendering the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files; and

making the rendered frame available to the remote client application.

39. The computer program product of claim 38 comprising instructions for:

detecting, within one of the files, a first script identifying a first storage location on the remote computing device; and

replacing the first script with a second script identifying a second storage location local to the server.

40. The computer program product of claim 38 comprising instructions for allocating between two or more processors, computations associated with rendering the frame.

41. The computer program product of claim 40 comprising instructions for rendering the frame from computation results from the two or more processors.

42. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device encoded with instructions, which upon execution by one or more processors, causes operations comprising:

integrating within a user-interface of an image-editing application, a control to facilitate communications between the image-editing application and a client application on a computing device;

receiving through the control, user-entered information associated with rendering of a frame; and

providing the information to the client application for use in communicating with a remote computing device that renders the frame based on files provided by the client application.

43. The computer program product of claim 42 comprising instructions for providing information on the files to the client application.

44. The computer program product of claim 42, wherein the user-entered information includes an indication that the frame is to be rendered.

45. The computer program product of claim 42 comprising instructions for launching the client application after receiving the user-entered information, upon determining that the client application is not executing on the computing device.

46. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device encoded with instructions, which upon execution by one or more processors, causes operations comprising:

receiving, at a client application executing on a computing device from an image-editing application executing on the computing device, information that is associated with rendering of a frame;

determining, based on the information, locations of files associated with the rendering;

providing the files to a remote server; and

receiving from the remote server the frame as rendered from the files provided to the remote server.

47. The computer program product of claim 46 comprising instructions for polling the remote server for a communication.

48. The computer program product of claim 46 comprising instructions for providing an additional file to the remote server based on determining, from a communication from the remote server, that the remote server is requesting the additional file.

49. The computer program product of claim 48 comprising instructions for providing to the remote server, information associated with the locations of the files on the computing device.

50. The computer program product of claim 48 comprising instructions for providing to the remote server, information associated with the image-editing application on the computing device.

51. A system comprising:

a computing device comprising memory and a processor, the computing device configured to;

receive, from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

render the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files;

determine a cost associated with using the rendering application; and

provide a notification of the cost to the remote client application.

52. The system of claim 51, wherein the cost is determined in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.

53. The system of claim 52 wherein the computing device is configured to use the rendering application in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.

54. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device encoded with instructions, which upon execution by one or more processors, causes operations comprising:

receiving, at a server from a remote client application, files related to rendering of a frame;

rendering the frame from the files using a rendering application determined based on information associated with the files;

determining a cost associated with using the rendering application; and

providing a notification of the cost to the remote client application.

55. The computer program product of claim 54 comprising instructions for making the frame, as rendered from the files, available to the remote client application.

56. The computer program product of claim 54 comprising instructions for initiating a communication with a vendor of the rendering application.

57. The computer program product of claim 54, wherein the cost is determined in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.

58. The computer program product of claim 54 comprising instructions for using the rendering application in accordance with a pre-determined agreement with a vendor of the rendering application.
