Abstract

In one embodiment, a cloud client device sends authentication data to a cloud services system. When the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is authenticated, the cloud client device receives data for configuring the cloud client device from the cloud services system, the data including one or more software modules associated with a communication protocol. When the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is not authenticated, the cloud client device conducts a data wipe of the cloud client device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

by a cloud client device, sending authentication data to a cloud services system;

when the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is authenticated, receiving by the cloud client device data for configuring the cloud client device from the cloud services system, the data comprising one or more software modules associated with a communication protocol;

when the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is not authenticated, by the cloud client device, conducting a data wipe of the cloud client device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the authentication data comprises:

a security token;

a location of the cloud client device;

an IP address of the cloud client device;

a MAC address of the cloud client device;

or

a usage log of the cloud client device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the security token is obtained from a client device.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the location of the cloud client device is determined based at least in part on data from a GPS transmitter of a client device.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the usage log comprises statistics associated with software or hardware of the cloud client device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the data for configuring the cloud client device is associated with a profile associated with the cloud client device in the cloud services system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein conducting the data wipe comprises overwriting memory data of the cloud client device such that the memory data may not be recovered by a third party.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein conducting the data wipe comprises preserving one or more portions of memory data of the cloud client device received from the cloud services system.

9. An information handling system comprising:

a cloud client device, the cloud client device operable to;

send authentication data to a cloud services system;

when the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is authenticated, receive data for configuring the cloud client device from the cloud services system, the data comprising one or more software modules associated with a communication protocol;

when the cloud services system determines the cloud client device is not authenticated, conduct a data wipe of the cloud client device.

10. The information handling system of claim 9, wherein the authentication data comprises:

a security token;

a location of the cloud client device;

an IP address of the cloud client device;

a MAC address of the cloud client device;

or

a usage log of the cloud client device.

11. The information handling system of claim 10, wherein the security token is obtained from a client device.

12. The information handling system of claim 11, wherein the security token is an RSA token.

13. The information handling system of claim 10, wherein the location of the cloud client device is determined based at least in part on data from a GPS transmitter of a client device.

14. The information handling system of claim 10, wherein the usage log comprises statistics associated with software or hardware of the cloud client device.

15. The information handling system of claim 9, wherein the data for configuring the cloud client device is associated with a profile associated with the cloud client device in the cloud services system.

16. The information handling system of claim 15, wherein the profile is associated with a user of the cloud client device.

17. The information handling system of claim 16, wherein the profile is associated with an organization associated with the cloud client device.

18. The information handling system of claim 9, wherein conducting the data wipe comprises overwriting memory data of the cloud client device such that the memory data may not be recovered by a third party.

19. The information handling system of claim 9, wherein conducting the data wipe comprises preserving one or more portions of memory data of the cloud client device received from the cloud services system.

20. The information handling system of claim 19, wherein the portions of memory data comprise applications received from the cloud services system.
