1. A method for a transmitting station to perform a point-to-multipoint data transmission in a cellular radio communication system from the transmitting station to a plurality of receiving stations, the method comprising the steps of:

  • logically grouping the plurality of receiving stations into a plurality of receiving station groups wherein each group includes at least one receiving station of the plurality of receiving stations, and each receiving station belonging to only one group of the plurality of receiving station groups;

    transmitting data from the transmitting station to the plurality of receiving stations;

    receiving a first confirmation message at the transmitting station from at least one first receiving station of a first receiving station group of the plurality of receiving stations, wherein the first confirmation message indicates one of a successful and unsuccessful decoding result for decoding the data after initiation of decoding of the data by the at least one first receiving station;

    transmitting a reply to the first confirmation message, the reply comprising the first confirmation message received from the at least one first receiving station, to at least one further receiving station thereby informing the at least one further receiving station of a decoding result of the at least one first receiving station; and

    receiving a further confirmation message at the transmitting station from the at least one further receiving station when predetermined conditions are met.
