Abstract

The present disclosure relates to an electronic therapy device including automatic controlled application of energies along with feedback control using sensors for improved synergistic effects and further the device is configured to be used for longer periods of time for improved and optimal therapeutic results without causing any adverse effects, the device can be used for pain management, healing, fitness, cosmetic and topical delivery related applications and a method for performing electronic therapy using the said portable electronic device.

Claims

1. A portable electronic therapy device, comprising:

an applicator and a controller ;

wherein the applicator is configured for accepting at least one electrical input;

a controller configured for providing the intensity, sequence, nature, and timing information for the different energies supplied to the said applicator; and

the applicator comprising of plurality of transducers configured for converting input electrical energy to different forms of output energies that are transmitted to the dermal and sub-dermal layers and a plurality of sensors disposed over the applicator configured for providing a feedback control signal to the controller.

2. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the output energies are ultrasound and thermal energies.

3. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the thermal energies are heat and cold.

4. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the feedback control signal is configured for optimized use of power generated from power source/battery.

5. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the controller comprises of a microprocessor with related electronics and is preprogrammed to configure the output energies with respect to the type of ailment and the treatment area.

6. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the applicator is in direct contact with the skin.

7. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein heat is produced by resistive heater/peltier element, cold is produced by peltier element, and ultrasound waves produced by piezo electric material.

8. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein therapy is assisted by application of different energies over the treatment area in pulse mode or continuous mode.

A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein different kinds of medical conditions can be treated but not limited to, arthritis, muscle pain, back pain, joint stiffness, cold hands, rheumatism, neuralgia, inflammation, edema, ischemia, spasm, to stimulate enzyme activity and immune system, bone healing, wound healing.

10. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the applicator that is in contact with the skin can be made of metal, or polymer or resin or composite material.

11. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the applicator is either integral part of the controller or electrically connected through wire or wireless.

12. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said applicator is provided with peel off adhesive or a strap to keep it in contact with the skin at the treatment area.

13. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the input power source can be is a rechargeable battery.

14. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the input power to the device is configured for delivering potential of range 03V to 18V DC.

15. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 7, wherein the resistive heater/peltier element is configured for heating the dermal and sub-dermal layers to a temperature range of 25-200°

C. and preferably 25-40°

C.

16. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 7, wherein the said device further includes a plurality of piezoelectric material configured for delivering ultrasound vibrations in the frequency range of 0.5 MHz to 10 MHz, and preferably 1 MHz-3 MHz

17. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 16, wherein the ultrasound transducer utilize intensities in the range of 0.05 W/cm² to 3 W/cm² and most preferably 0.5 W/cm² to 1.5 W/cm².

18. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 7, wherein the said peltier element is configured for delivering cold energy between 1 to 25 °

C. and preferably 4 to 25 °

C.

19. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the various forms of energies are supplied either in sequential manner or in simultaneous manner or both.

20. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the various forms of energy are supplied in pulses with a minimum duration of 1 second or more.

21. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 20, wherein the pulsing sequence and duration of pulses are optimized according to the therapy requirements.

22. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the controller controls different factors such as temperature, rate of heating, duration of heating, rate of cooling, duration of cooling, the ultrasound energy, frequency, intensity, and its duration.

23. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said controller further includes LED status indicators.

24. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said controller further includes a memory for the storage, recording and retrieval of data for further use.

25. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said device can be used for either human or veterinary use.

26. A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, where in the said device can be used to control the skin permeation rate of topically applied formulations or skin patches.

A portable electronic therapy device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said device can be used for cosmetic applications for rejuvenation of facial and body skin, reduction of stretch marks, treatment of contracture or scar tissues, and stimulation of lipolysis in adipose tissue with or without the use of drug.

28. A method for performing electronic therapy using a portable electronic device comprising the steps of:

attaching the device to the skin of the subject;

inputting electrical energy from a power source;

controlling the electrical energy power input using a controller;

converting the electrical energy to different forms of output energy using a plurality of configured circuit blocks; and

providing the intensity, sequence, nature, and timing signals for activating therapy using different energies or at least one energy through an applicator; and

modifying the intensity, sequence, nature, and timing signals as per the feedback control signals from a plurality of sensors.

29. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein the different kinds of output energies are ultrasound, and heat and cold.

30. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein the controlling of electrical energies are controlled by a configured controller, comprising of a processor which is preprogrammed to configure the output energies with respect to the permeability of skin or tissue.

31. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein the applicator is in direct contact with the skin.

32. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein the therapy is assisted by heat produced by heater/pettier element or ultrasound waves produced by piezo electric material or cold produced by peltier element in isolated way or in combination.

33. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein therapy is assisted by application of different energies over the treatment area in pulse mode or continuous mode.

A method as claimed in claim 33, wherein the therapeutic conditions include different kinds of medical conditions can be treated but not limited to, arthritis, muscle pain, back pain, joint stiffness, cold hands, rheumatism, neuralgia, inflammation, edema, ischemia, spasm, to stimulate enzyme activity and immune system, bone healing, wound healing.

35. A method as claimed in claim 33, where in the device provides rapid and efficient therapeutic benefit when used in combination with topically applied dosage forms because of enhanced drug permeation.

36. A method as claimed in claim 33, wherein the device is used for conditions such as stretch marks removal, facial and body rejuvenation, scar tissue removal and for lipolysis.

37. A method as claimed in claim 28, wherein the feedback control signal is configured for optimized use of power generated from power source/battery.
