Abstract

A method and apparatus for remote purchase, installation, and licensing of software is disclosed. The method comprising receiving, from a mobile device, a request for a software application; determining compatibility between at least one registered device and the software application; providing, to the mobile device, a list comprising compatible registered devices; placing the software application on an installation queue for the selected registered device in response to an input; and downloading the queued software application to the registered device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, from a mobile device, a request for a software application;

determining compatibility between the at least one registered device and the software application;

providing, to the mobile device, a list comprising compatible registered devices;

placing the software application on an installation queue for the selected registered device in response to an input; and

downloading the queued software application to the registered device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising registering a device, wherein registering comprises storing a plurality of hardware and software configuration details for the device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the registered device is remote from the mobile device from which the request for an installation is received.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining compatibility comprises ensuring the hardware and software configuration details of the selected registered device meet a plurality of hardware and software requirements of the software application.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

sending information regarding the compatibility to the mobile device; and

receiving a confirmation from the mobile device, for installation of the software on the registered device.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising completing a purchase transaction before placing the software application on the installation queue.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein downloading is in response to a request for download from the registered device and comprises facilitating remote installation and licensing of the downloaded software application on the registered device.

8. An apparatus for remote installation of a software application comprising:

a device manager for receiving a request for a software application on a registered device;

a compatibility module for determining compatibility of the software application and at least one registered device; and

a purchase module for facilitating payment for the software application and placing the software application on an installation queue of a selected registered device when the selected registered device is determined to be compatible with the software application.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the device manager registers a device, wherein registering a device comprises storing a plurality of hardware and software configuration details for the device.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the registered device is remote from the mobile device from which the request for an installation is received.

11. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein determining compatibility comprises ensuring the hardware and software configuration details of the selected registered device meet a plurality of hardware and software requirements of the software application.

12. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the compatibility module further sends information regarding the compatibility to the mobile device;

and receives a confirmation from the mobile device, for installation of the software on the registered device.

13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein downloading is in response to a request for download from the registered device and comprises facilitating remote installation and licensing of the downloaded software application on the registered device.

14. A non-transient computer readable storage medium for storing computer instructions that, when executed by at least one processor cause the at least one processor to perform a method for remote purchase and installation of a software application comprising:

receiving, from a mobile device, a request for a software application;

determining compatibility between at least one registered device and the software application;

providing, to the mobile device, a list comprising compatible registered devices;

placing the software application on an installation queue for the selected registered device in response to an input; and

downloading the queued software application to the registered device.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 14, further comprising registering a device, wherein registering comprises storing a plurality of hardware and software configuration details for the device.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 14, wherein the registered device is remote from the mobile device from which the request for an installation is received.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 14, wherein determining compatibility comprises ensuring the hardware and software configuration details of the selected registered device meet a plurality of hardware and software requirements of the software application.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 14, further comprising:

sending information regarding the compatibility to the mobile device; and

receiving a confirmation from the mobile device, for installation of the software on the registered device.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 14, further comprising completing a purchase transaction before placing the software application on the installation queue.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 14, wherein downloading is in response to a request for download from the registered device and comprises facilitating remote installation and licensing of the downloaded software application on the registered device.
