Abstract

A system for dental implant restoration is provided. It includes universal aligning adaptors and prosthetic components having co-operable indices, which together form a translational, integrating system which aligns, synchronizes, and references the prosthetic components about an implant'"'"'s central axis of rotation. Rotation of an adaptor about a prosthetic component, with its reference point becoming aligned to a predetermined reference point on the prosthetic component, followed by the rotation of the adaptor/prosthetic component assembly about the implant, situates the prosthetic component in a predetermined position such that all other prosthetic components become synchronized to the adaptor'"'"'s reference point. The prosthetic component is mechanical for clinical or lab bench use, or is virtual for restoration design in a software program, prior to milling prosthetic abutments or devices. Abutments, healing caps and screw access holes are realigned to preferred positions and synchronized with minimal deviation from the ideal direction.

Claims

1. An assembly for use in dental restoration comprising,

an aligning adaptor configured to be seated on a dental implant in a first predetermined position relative to the dental implant, the adaptor having an adaptor reference indicium;

and

a prosthetic component configured to engage the adaptor to position the prosthetic component in a second predetermined position, the prosthetic component having a prosthetic reference indicium that is co-operable with the adaptor reference indicium forming co-operable indices that are configured to identify the second predetermined position.

2. The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the adaptor reference indicium and the prosthetic reference indicium each include graduations for indicating a degree of rotation of the prosthetic component and the adaptor relative to each other.

3. The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the prosthetic reference indicium includes a primary prosthetic indicium and a secondary prosthetic indicium such that the adaptor'"'"'s reference indicium is rotatable in relation to the primary or secondary prosthetic indicium.

4. The assembly defined in claim 3, further comprising:

an aligning/synchronizing device; and

an automated and/or interactive clinical and/or digital protocol,

wherein the aligning/synchronizing device and the automated and/or interactive clinical and/or digital protocol are configured to realign an abutment, a second prosthetic component, or a prosthesis to an ideal position, and

wherein the aligning/synchronizing device and the automated and/or interactive clinical and/or digital protocol synchronizes the aligning adaptor and the prosthetic component at the ideal position, such that the adaptor reference indicium identifies and registers the ideal position to direct fabrication of a final prosthetic device.

6. The assembly defined in claim 4, further comprising:

a referencing device seated in relation to the adaptor reference indicium for fabrication of the prosthetic component.

7. The assembly defined in claim 6, wherein the referencing device includes a reference device indicium that is co-operable with the adaptor reference indicium

8. The assembly defined in claim 4, wherein the aligning/synchronizing device is an abutment post, an impression, post or a scan post.

9. The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the prosthetic component is an indexed healing cap,

wherein the prosthetic reference indicium is configured to determine the seating of a reference device after rotation of the indexed healing cap into the second predetermined position.

10. The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the prosthetic component is an interim abutment or healing cap.

11. The assembly defined in claim 4, wherein the aligning/synchronizing device is configured to establish a plurality of reference points to direct the use of a clinical co-operable component for creating the final prosthetic device.

12. The assembly defined in claim 11, wherein the plurality of reference points are configured to be applied to software milling device codes and controls for milling a prosthetic device.

The assembly defined in claim 3, wherein the adaptor includes a first polygonal structure at a free end and a second polygonal structure at an open end, such that rotation of the adaptor and the prosthetic component results in increments of horizontal rotational adjustment over the implant, as directed by the adaptor reference indicium in relation to the primary or secondary indicium of the prosthetic component.

20. The assembly defined in claim 3, wherein the adaptor reference indicium is a three-dimensional shape configured to provide a positive seat for engaging the primary prosthetic indicium or the secondary prosthetic indicium having a mating reciprocal three-dimensional shape.

The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the prosthetic component is a healing cap, a referencing abutment post and healing cap, an indexed healing cap, an abutment post, a temporary abutment post, a milled abutment post, a cast abutment post, a pressed post, a zirconia abutment post, an impression post, or a scanning post.

26. The assembly defined in claim 1, wherein the adaptor reference indicium is rotatable in relation to the prosthetic reference indicium to identify the second predetermined position.

50. A method for creating a virtual assembly for use in a milling software program having milling device codes and controls for milling a prosthetic component, comprising:

virtually aligning in a software program an adaptor having an adaptor reference indicium and a prosthetic component having a prosthetic reference indicium that is co-operable with the adaptor reference indicium to correct for implant mesial-distal index misalignment prior to milling by using the universal aligning system'"'"'s automated and/or interactive clinical and/or digital protocol, such that virtually aligning locates the ideal positions for the prosthetic component in relation to the alignment of an implant index through rotation and synchronization.

51. A method for dental restoration comprising:

rotating an adaptor having an adaptor reference indicium and a prosthetic component having a prosthetic reference indicium that is co-operable with the adaptor reference indicium a relative to each other into a generally desired vertical and horizontal predetermined position in relation to an adaptor analog;

generating position data by registering the vertical and horizontal predetermined position via an intraoral scan or CBCT scan of the adaptor or prosthetic component on an implant or via a bench scan of an adaptor replica or prosthetic component replica on an implant replica,

using a computer to translate the position data into milling device codes that control a milling program,

virtually rotating the adaptor and the prosthetic component into a preferred position within the milling program,

milling the prosthetic component, and

inserting the milled prosthetic component on the implant such that the prosthetic component is in the preferred position.

52. The method defined in claim 51, wherein the co-operable indices include graduations for indicating the degree of rotation of the prosthetic component and adaptor relative to each other.

53. The method defined in claim 51, wherein the adaptor includes a digital adaptor reference indicium and the prosthetic component includes a digital prosthetic reference indicium co-operable with the digital adaptor reference indicium, such that the digital adaptor reference indicium is rotatable in relation to the digital prosthetic reference indicium to define a predetermined position.

96. An assembly for dental restoration comprising:

scan post assembly including;

an adaptor configured to seat on an implant such that an index at its free end is configured to engage an implant index; and

scan post having a post index,

wherein the adaptor index and the post index are co-operable for digitally identifying and registering a predetermined position of the adaptor,

wherein the scan post is configured to seat on the adaptor such that the adaptor index and the post index overlay.

97. The assembly defined in claim 96, wherein the scan post has one or more polyhedrons on its external surface for receiving a scan that registers the location of the primary indicium of the adaptor.

131. An assembly for use in dental restoration comprising:

an adaptor having an adaptor indicium; and

a contoured healing cap having a cap indicium, the healing cap being configured to cover and protect the adaptor and to maintain a desired gingival tissue contour,

wherein the adaptor indicium and the cap indicium are co-operable to direct the rotation of the healing cap to a preferred position.
