Abstract

A housing for a fluid infusion device is provided. The housing can include a first housing component including a first engagement system. The first housing component can define a first compartment and a second compartment. The first engagement system can be coupled to the second compartment and movable relative to the second compartment. The housing can also include a second housing component coupled to the first compartment of the first housing component. The second housing component can include a second engagement system. The second engagement system can be movable relative to the second housing component.

Claims

1. A housing for a fluid infusion device, comprising:

a first housing component including a first engagement system, the first housing component defining a first compartment and a second compartment, the first engagement system coupled to the second compartment and movable relative to the second compartment; and

a second housing component coupled to the first compartment of the first housing component and including a second engagement system, the second engagement system movable relative to the second housing component.

2. The housing of claim 1, wherein the first engagement system further comprises a retention member immovably mounted in the second compartment.

3. The housing of claim 2, wherein the first engagement system further comprises:

a wedge slidably coupled to the retention member, the wedge movable relative to the retention member from a first position to a second position; and

a first biasing member coupled to the retention member that biases the wedge into the first position.

4. The housing of claim 3, wherein the wedge includes a throughbore, and the retention member is received through the throughbore of the wedge.

5. The housing of claim 4, wherein the wedge has a first side and a second side, and the first side extends along a longitudinal axis of the wedge for a length greater than a length of the second side that extends along the longitudinal axis of the wedge.

6. The housing of claim 5, wherein the first side of the wedge further comprises:

a first contact portion defined at a first end of the wedge; and

a second contact portion defined between the first contact portion and a second end of the wedge.

7. The housing of claim 6, wherein the first contact portion is a substantially triangularly shaped projection, which extends outwardly from the first side of the wedge.

8. The housing of claim 6, wherein the second contact portion is a projection that extends outwardly from the first side of the wedge and includes a first channel.

9. The housing of claim 1, wherein the second housing component includes a second channel, and the second engagement system further comprises:

a snap housing that is movable within the second channel between a first position and a second position; and

a second biasing member received at least partially within the second channel that biases the snap housing in the first position.

10. The housing of claim 9, wherein the snap housing further comprises a first side and a second side, and the second side includes a guide for the second biasing member.

11. The housing of claim 10, wherein the first side of the snap housing includes at least one projection to provide audible feedback.

12. A housing for a fluid infusion device, comprising:

a first side extending substantially perpendicular to a first end;

a first engagement system coupled adjacent to the first end, a portion of the first engagement system movable relative to the first end in a direction substantially parallel to the first end; and

a second engagement system coupled to the first side, a portion of the second engagement system movable relative to the first side in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first side.

13. The housing of claim 12, further comprising:

a first housing component; and

a second housing component coupled to the first housing component,

wherein the first engagement system is coupled to the first housing component and the second engagement system is coupled at least partially to the second housing component.

14. The housing of claim 13, wherein the first engagement system further comprises:

a retention pin fixedly coupled to the first housing component;

a wedge slidably coupled about the retention pin, the wedge movable relative to the retention pin from a first position to a second position; and

a first biasing member coupled about the retention pin that biases the wedge into the first position.

15. The housing of claim 14, wherein the wedge has a first side and a second side, and the first side extends along a longitudinal axis of the wedge for a length greater than a length of the second side along the longitudinal axis of the wedge, and the length of the first side is selected to provide a guide for the first biasing member.

16. The housing of claim 15, wherein the first side of the wedge further comprises:

a first contact portion defined at a first end of the wedge; and

a second contact portion defined between the first contact portion and a second end of the wedge.

17. The housing of claim 16, wherein the second housing component includes a channel defined in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first side, and the second engagement system is at least partially received within the channel.

18. The housing of claim 17, wherein the second housing component further comprises:

a snap housing that is movable within the channel between a first position and a second position; and

a second biasing member received at least partially within the channel that biases the snap housing in the first position.

19. The housing of claim 18, wherein the snap housing further comprises a first side and a second side, and the second side includes a guide for the second biasing member.

20. The housing of claim 12, wherein the fluid infusion device is an insulin infusion device.
