Abstract

The disclosure relates to systems and methods for monitoring content, generating alerts, determining trends, and communicating notifications related to geofeeds, including content related to geographically definable locations that is aggregated from a plurality of social media or other content providers. The system may monitor the content based on one or more alert parameters that specify alert conditions that when satisfied cause the system to generate an alert, including trending alerts. The system may track an activity as it moves over time. Content may be associated with the activity and monitored such that the activity may be tracked based on the monitored content. Various alerts may be generated based on the tracked activity. The system may communicate notifications that include the alerts, thereby leveraging content from social media or other providers to convey real-time information on subject matter, trends, activities, and/or other information.

Claims

1. A system for generating geofeed-based alerts, the system comprising:

one or more processors configured to execute one or more computer program modules, the one or more computer program modules comprising;

an alert module configured to;

obtain an alert parameter that specifies an alert condition related to content of one or more geofeeds that when satisfied causes an alert to be generated, wherein the content is related to one or more geographically definable locations and is aggregated from a plurality of social media or other content providers;

monitor the content related of the one or more geofeeds;

determine that the alert condition has been satisfied based on the monitoring;

generate a geofeed-based alert based on the determination; and

a communication module configured to;

communicate a notification that includes the geofeed-based alert.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert parameter comprises a subject matter alert parameter that specifies a subject matter alert condition, the alert module further configured to:

determine that the content includes subject matter that satisfies the subject matter alert condition.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the alert module is further configured to:

determine whether a keyword specified by the subject matter alert parameter is included in the content.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert parameter comprises a volume alert parameter that specifies a volume alert condition, the alert module further configured to:

determine that a volume of content exceeds a threshold volume and satisfies the volume alert condition.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the alert module is further configured to:

obtain the threshold volume from the volume alert parameter.

6. The system of claim 4, wherein the alert module is further configured to:

automatically determine the threshold volume based on a historical volume of content related to the one or more geofeeds.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert parameter comprises a temporal alert parameter that specifies a temporal alert condition, the alert module further configured to:

determine that the content is related to a time specified by the temporal alert parameter and satisfies the temporal alert condition.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert parameter comprises a trend alert parameter that specifies a trend alert condition, the alert module further configured to:

determine whether the content is part of a trend; and

determine that the trend alert condition is satisfied when the content is part of the trend.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the alert module is further configured to:

determine that the content was unavailable at a first time period and is available at a second time period after the first time period; and

determine that the content satisfies the trend alert condition based on the determination that the content was unavailable at a first time period and is available at a second time period after the first time period.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the alert module is further configured to:

determine that a first volume of the content was available at a first time period, a second volume of the content greater than the first volume was available at a second time period after the first time period, and a third volume of the content greater than the first volume is available at a third time period after the second time period; and

determine that the content satisfies the trend alert condition based on the determination that the first volume of the content was available at the first time period, the second volume of the content greater than the first volume was available at a second time period after the first time period, and the third volume of the content greater than the first volume is available at the third time period after the second time period.

11. The system of claim 1, the one or more computer program modules further comprising:

an alert management module configured to;

obtain a subscription to the geofeed-based alert;

wherein the communication module is further configured to;

communicate the notification that includes the geofeed-based alert to one or more subscribers associated with the subscription.

12. A method for generating geofeed-based alerts, the method being implemented in a computer that includes one or more processors configured to execute one or more computer program modules, the method comprising:

obtaining, by an alert module, an alert parameter that specifies an alert condition related to content of one or more geofeeds that when satisfied causes an alert to be generated, wherein the content is related to one or more geographically definable locations and is aggregated from a plurality of social media or other content providers;

monitoring, by an alert module, the content related of the one or more geofeeds;

determining, by the alert module, that the alert condition has been satisfied based on the monitoring;

generating, by the alert module, a geofeed-based alert based on the determination; and

communicating, by a communication module, a notification that includes the geofeed-based alert.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the alert parameter comprises a subject matter alert parameter that specifies a subject matter alert condition, the method further comprising:

determining, by the alert module, that the content includes subject matter that satisfies the subject matter alert condition.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein determining that the content includes subject matter that satisfies the subject matter alert condition comprises:

determining, by the alert module, whether a keyword specified by the subject matter alert parameter is included in the content.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the alert parameter comprises a volume alert parameter that specifies a volume alert condition, the method further comprising:

determining, by the alert module, that a volume of content exceeds a threshold volume and satisfies the volume alert condition.

16. The method of claim 15, the method further comprising:

obtaining, by the alert module, the threshold volume from the volume alert parameter.

17. The method of claim 15, the method further comprising:

automatically determining, by the alert module, the threshold volume based on a historical volume of content related to the one or more geofeeds.

18. The method of claim 12, wherein the alert parameter comprises a temporal alert parameter that specifies a temporal alert condition, the method further comprising:

determining, by the alert module, that the content is related to a time specified by the temporal alert parameter and satisfies the temporal alert condition.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the alert parameter comprises a trend alert parameter that specifies a trend alert condition, the method further comprising:

determining, by the alert module, whether the content is part of a trend; and

determining, by the alert module, that the trend alert condition is satisfied when the content is part of the trend.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein determining whether the content is part of a trend comprises:

determining, by the alert module, that the content was unavailable at a first time period and is available at a second time period after the first time period; and

determining, by the alert module, that the content satisfies the trend alert condition based on the determination that the content was unavailable at a first time period and is available at a second time period after the first time period.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein determining whether the content is part of a trend comprises:

determining, by the alert module, that a first volume of the content was available at a first time period, a second volume of the content greater than the first volume was available at a second time period after the first time period, and a third volume of the content greater than the first volume is available at a third time period after the second time period; and

determining, by the alert module, that the content satisfies the trend alert condition based on the determination that the first volume of the content was available at the first time period, the second volume of the content greater than the first volume was available at a second time period after the first time period, and the third volume of the content greater than the first volume is available at the third time period after the second time period.

22. The method of claim 12, the method further comprising:

obtaining, by an alert management module, a subscription to the geofeed-based alert;

communicating, by the communication module, the notification that includes the geofeed-based alert to one or more subscribers associated with the subscription.

23. A system for tracking an activity over time based on content related to one or more geographically definable locations, the system comprising:

one or more processors configured to execute one or more computer program modules, the one or more computer program modules comprising;

a tracking module configured to;

identify an activity to be tracked;

associate first content with the activity, wherein the first content is related to one or more first geographically definable locations and is aggregated from a plurality of social media or other content providers;

associate second content with the activity, wherein the second content is related to one or more second geographically definable locations and is aggregated from the plurality of social media or other content providers;

determine that the one or more first geographically definable locations and the one or more second geographically definable locations represents a path of the activity over time; and

a communication module configured to;

communicate the first content, the second content, and the path of the activity represented by the one or more first geographically definable locations and the one or more second geographically definable locations.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the tracking module is further configured to:

associate the first content and the second content with the activity based on a keyword that appears in the first content and the second content, wherein the keyword is related to or indicates the activity.

25. The system of claim 23, wherein the tracking module is further configured to:

identify at least one geographically definable location adjacent to the one or more second geographically definable locations, wherein at least some of an area of the at least one geographically definable location is not coincident with the one or more first geographically definable locations;

obtain content related to the least one geographically definable location; and

determine that the obtained content is related to the activity, wherein the one or more second geographically definable locations is identified based on the at least one geographically definable location and wherein the second content is identified based on the obtained content.

26. The system of claim 23, wherein the tracking module is further configured to:

receive an identification of the one or more second geographically definable locations based on an input by a user or process.
