Abstract

A bookmark displays one or more bookmark tiles each linked to an object in a social networking system, allowing faster and easier access to the linked objects. The bookmark tiles are arranged in a tile region displayed proximate to a page of content from the social networking system. For example, the tile region is a horizontal row proximate to the page content. The tile region may be accessed by performing a scrolling input when the page is displayed by a client device. The bookmark tiles may be navigated using a search region for receiving input to search the bookmark tiles. The search region may be accessible by performing a second scrolling input while the client device displays the page.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

displaying, at a client device, a page including content retrieved from a social networking system;

detecting a first scrolling input performed by a user on the displayed page; and

responsive to detecting the first scrolling input, displaying a modified page comprising;

at least a portion of the content included in the page, and

a tile region proximate to the portion of the content, the tile region including one or more bookmark tiles, each bookmark tile linked to an object maintained by the social networking system and including an image representing a content item associated with the object linked to the bookmark tile.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

detecting a second scrolling input performed on the first modified page; and

responsive to detecting the second scrolling input, displaying an additionally modified page comprising;

at least a portion of the content included in the first modified page, and

a search region proximate to the portion of the content included in the first modified page, the search region including a search field configured to receive text input from the user.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving text input from the user in the search field; and

responsive to receiving the text input, updating the tile region to include a subset of the one or more bookmark tiles, each bookmark tile in the subset linked to an object related to the text input.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

detecting an input selecting a bookmark tile; and

displaying an object from the social networking system linked to the selected bookmark tile.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a notification that new content has been associated with an object linked to one of the bookmark tiles;

receiving an image representing the new content associated the object; and

updating the bookmark tile to display the received image.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein an order of the one or more bookmark tiles is based at least in part on interactions by the user with objects linked to each of the one or more bookmark tiles.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein a bookmark tile further displays a number representing a number of notifications associated with the object linked to the bookmark tile that the user has not viewed.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the displayed page includes content from a user profile associated with the user.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the client device is a mobile device comprising a touchscreen and the first scrolling input is a downward swiping gesture performed by the user on the touchscreen.

10. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising computer program code, the computer program code when executed by a processor of a client device causing the processor to perform steps including:

displaying, at the client device, a page including content retrieved from a social networking system;

detecting a first input performed by a user on the displayed page; and

responsive to the first input, displaying a modified page comprising;

at least a portion of the content included in the page, and

a tile region proximate to the portion of the content, the tile region including one or more bookmark tiles, each bookmark tile linked to an object maintained by the social networking system and including an image representing a content item associated with the object linked to the bookmark tile.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, further comprising computer program code that, when executed by the processor of the client device, causes the processor to perform steps including:

detecting a second input performed on the first modified page; and

responsive to detecting the second input, displaying an additionally modified page comprising;

at least a portion of the content included in the first modified page, and

a search region proximate to the portion of the content included in the first modified page, the search region including a search field configured to receive text input from the user.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, further comprising computer program code that, when executed by the processor of the client device, causes the processor to perform steps including:

receiving text input from the user in the search field; and

responsive to receiving the text input, updating the tile region to include a subset of the one or more bookmark tiles, each bookmark tile in the subset linked to an object related to the text input.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, further comprising computer program code that, when executed by the processor of the client device, causes the processor to perform steps including:

detecting an input selecting a bookmark tile; and

displaying an object from the social networking system linked to the selected bookmark tile.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, further comprising computer program code that, when executed by the processor of the client device, causes the processor to perform steps including:

receiving a notification that new content has been associated with an object linked to one of the bookmark tiles;

receiving an image representing the new content associated the object; and

updating the bookmark tile to display the received image.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein an order of the one or more bookmark tiles is based at least in part on interactions by the user with objects linked to each of the one or more bookmark tiles.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein a bookmark tile further displays a number representing a number of notifications associated with the object linked to the bookmark tile that the user has not viewed.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the displayed page includes content from a user profile associated with the user.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the first input is a scrolling input.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the scrolling input is a downward swiping gesture detected by a touchscreen of the client device.
