Abstract

A method for communication performed by a station in a wireless local area network system is provided. The method includes receiving a first change sequence from an access point, transmitting a probe request frame to an access point in order to request updated system information, the probe request frame including the first change sequence, and receiving a probe response frame from the access point in response to the probe request frame. The probe response frame includes a second change sequence. The first change sequence and the second change sequence indicate a change of system information within a basic service set (BSS).

Claims

1. A method for communication performed by a station in a wireless local area network system, the method comprising:

receiving, by a station, a first change sequence from an access point;

transmitting, by the station, a probe request frame to an access point in order to request updated system information, the probe request frame including the first change sequence; and

receiving, by the station, a probe response frame from the access point in response to the probe request frame,

wherein the probe response frame includes a second change sequence,

wherein the first change sequence and the second change sequence indicate a change of system information within a basic service set (BSS).

2. The method of claim 1, wherein if a value of the second change sequence is different from a value of the first change sequence, the probe response frame further includes updated system information.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the second change sequence is incremented when the system information is updated.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the system information includes a channel switch announcement information element.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the system information includes an extended channel switch announcement information element.

6. The method of claim 3, wherein the system information includes an Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) parameter set information element.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the first change sequence is transmitted in a beacon frame from the access point.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the probe response frame further includes a Timing Synchronization Function (TSF) timer field, the TSF time field is used for timing estimation.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the station is associated with the access point.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the station is operating in a sub 1 GHz frequency band.

11. A wireless apparatus operating in a wireless local area network system, the wireless apparatus comprising:

a transceiver transmitting and receiving frames; and

a processor operably coupled to the transceiver and configured for;

receiving a first change sequence from an access point,

transmitting a probe request frame to an access point in order to request updated system information, the probe request frame including the first change sequence, and

receiving a probe response frame from the access point in response to the probe request frame,

wherein the probe response frame includes a second change sequence,

wherein the first change sequence and the second change sequence indicate a change of system information within a basic service set (BSS).

12. The wireless apparatus of claim 11, wherein if a value of the second change sequence is different from a value of the first change sequence, the probe response frame further includes updated system information.

13. The wireless apparatus of claim 12, wherein the second change sequence is incremented when the system information is updated.

14. The wireless apparatus of claim 13, wherein the system information includes a channel switch announcement information element.

15. The wireless apparatus of claim 13, wherein the system information includes an extended channel switch announcement information element.

16. The wireless apparatus of claim 13, wherein the system information includes an Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) parameter set information element.

17. The wireless apparatus of claim 11, wherein the first change sequence is transmitted in a beacon frame from the access point.

18. The wireless apparatus of claim 11, wherein the probe response frame further includes a Timing Synchronization Function (TSF) timer field, the TSF time field is used for timing estimation.

19. The wireless apparatus of claim 11, wherein the station is associated with the access point.

20. The wireless apparatus of claim 11, wherein the wireless apparatus is a station operating in a sub 1 GHz frequency band.
