Abstract
A valvuloplasty system comprises a balloon adapted to be placed adjacent leaflets of a valve. The balloon is inflatable with a liquid. The system further includes a shock wave generator within the balloon that produces shock waves that propagate through the liquid for impinging upon the valve. The shock wave generator is moveable within the balloon to vary shock wave impingement on the valve.

46. A valvuloplasty system comprising:
-
an elongate tube; a first balloon chamber configured to be placed adjacent to a valve; a second balloon chamber configured to be placed adjacent to the valve at a location opposite the first balloon chamber, wherein the first and second balloon chambers are located at the distal end of the elongate tube; a first shock wave generator located within the first balloon chamber, wherein the first shock wave generator is mounted on a first elongate element that is slidably received within the elongate tube; a second shock wave generator located within the second balloon chamber, wherein the second shock wave generator is mounted on a second elongate element that is slidably received within the elongate tube; wherein the first and second balloon chambers are each inflatable with a liquid and the first and second shock wave generator are each configured to produce a shock wave within the first and second balloon chambers to propagate through the liquid for impinging upon the valve, and wherein the first and second shock wave generators are each configured to be axially and/or longitudinally movable within the first and second balloon chambers to vary the shock wave impingement upon the valve. - View Dependent Claims (47, 48, 49, 50, 51)

52. A device for softening and/or breaking tissue calcifications comprising:
-
an elongate tube; a balloon inflatable with a liquid having a longitudinal axis located at the distal end of the elongate tube; and a shock wave generator within the balloon, wherein the shock wave generator is arranged to produce a shock wave within the balloon to propagate through the liquid for impinging upon the calcified tissue, and wherein the shock wave generator is mounted on an elongate element that is slidably received within the elongate tube such that the shock wave generator is configured to move from a first location to a second location that is axially and/or longitudinally displaced from the first location. - View Dependent Claims (53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60)
