1. :
- An enterprise asset management system for presenting and managing multiple pieces of equipment, where each piece of equipment has a functional location object and a materialized object, the system comprising;
a first data set containing master records for each functional location objects organized by a functional area location hierarchy as either equipment, subunit or component,a second data set containing master records for each materialized object mapped to the master records of the first data set by a classification structure; and
a third data set containing a code set for failure characteristic for each functional location object and each materialized object.

Abstract
An information (ERP/EAM) system and equipment taxonomy for representing and managing of equipment, equipment subunits and component parts thereof across an enterprise that maps materialized physical objects to functional physical objects within a hierarchy of functional locations within the enterprise for all enterprise assets in accordance with applicable industry standards. The ERP/EAM system and the equipment taxonomy also provide multi-leveled failure reporting.

2. :
- A method for creating an equipment taxonomy for a piece of equipment having a functional location object and a materialized object, comprising;
a. creating a functional area location hierarchy; b. identifying each functional location object as an FEL objects or an FCL objects; c. creating a first master record for adjoining each of the FEL objects and FCL objects; d. creating a second master record for materialized location objects of the piece of equipment; e. creating a classification structures for both the FEL objects and the FCL objects and the materialized object; f. assigning a classification to each of the first master record and the second master record; g. creating a catalog profile of attributes for the piece of the equipment; and h. assigning the catalog profile to the first master record.

3. :
- In an enterprise asset management (EAM) system for presenting and managing multiple pieces of equipment, where each piece of equipment has a functional location object and a materialized object, the system, including a first data set containing master records for each functional location object organized by a functional area location hierarchy as either equipment, subunit or component, a second data set containing master records for each materialized object, which are installed into corresponding FEL and FCL master records of the first data set to execute their respective process duties/requirements;
a third data set containing a classification structure used to define use/location data for the first data set and attributes for the second data set; and
fourth data set containing failure code sets and related characteristics for describing equipment failures in a standard manner for both functional and materialized objects, and a method for reporting equipment malfunction events,a method for reporting equipment malfunction events comprising; a. initiating a native malfunction report for the malfunctioning equipment; b. initiating an FEL malfunction report for any parent equipment of the malfunctioning equipment if malfunctioning equipment is a component object; c. executing equipment repairs for both the native malfunction report and the FEL malfunction report; d. inputting relevant failure data to the native malfunction report and the FEL malfunction report; e. linking the native malfunction report and the FEL malfunction report to the failure event in EAM system; and f. generating an equipment failure metrics from the EAM system.
