Abstract

System and methods for providing access to particular media content. First media content may be output for presentation by a display device. Second media content other than the first media content may be monitored. A determination may be made as to whether the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content. Access to the second media content for presentation by the display device may be provided.

Claims

1. A method for providing access to particular media content, comprising:

outputting, by a television receiver, first media content for presentation by a display device;

monitoring, by the television receiver, second media content other than the first media content;

determining, by the television receiver based on the monitoring, whether the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content; and

outputting, by the television receiver in response to the determining, the second media content for presentation by the display device, in place of the first media content when the second media content has greater priority than the first media content.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

identifying at least one tag embedded within the second media content; and

determining that the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content based on the at least one tag.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising outputting an interface for presentation by the display device, the interface comprising at least one option for user-selection to access the second media content for presentation by the display device.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving indication of selection of the at least one option; and

outputting the second media content for presentation by the display device.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising modifying priority of at least the second media content in response to receiving indication of selection of the at least one option.

7. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving indication of selection of the at least one option; and

continuing outputting the first media content for presentation by the display device.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising modifying the priority of the second media content in response to receiving indication of selection of the at least one option.

9. A television receiver, comprising:

a first module configured to output media content to a display device for presentation by the display device; and

a second module configured to, when first media content is output to the display device, monitor and determine whether second media content has a priority greater than the first media content, and command the first module, without user input, to output the second media content in place of the first media content when the second media content has greater priority than the first media content.

10. The television receiver of claim 9, wherein the second module is further configured to identify at least one tag embedded within the second media content;

and determine that the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content based on the at least one tag.

12. The television receiver of claim 9, wherein the first module is further configured to output an interface for presentation by the display device, the interface comprising at least one option for user-selection to access the second media content for presentation by the display device.

13. The television receiver of claim 12, wherein the second module is further configured to receive an indication of selection of the at least one option and, in response to receiving the indication, output the second media content for presentation by the display device.

14. The television receiver of claim 13, wherein the second module is further configured to modify priority of the second media content in response to receiving the indication of selection of the at least one option.

15. The television receiver of claim 12, wherein the second module is further configured to receive an indication of selection of the at least one option and, in response to receiving the indication, continue output of the first media content for presentation by the display device.

16. The television receiver of claim 15, wherein the second module is further configured to modify priority of the first media content, and the second media content, in response to receiving the indication of selection of the at least one option.

17. A computing device, comprising:

a processing unit; and

a system memory connected to the processing unit, the system memory including instructions that, when executed by the processing unit, cause the processing unit to implement at least one module to provide access to particular media content, the at least one module configured to;

output first media content for presentation by a display device;

monitor second media content other than the first media content;

determine, without user input, whether the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content; and

output the second media content for presentation by the display device in place of the first media content when the second media content has greater priority than the first media content.

18. The computing device of claim 17, wherein the at least one module is further configured to:

identify at least one tag embedded within the second media content; and

determine that the second media content has a priority greater than the first media content based on the at least one tag.

20. The computing device of claim 17, wherein the at least one module is further configured to:

output an interface for presentation by the display device, the interface comprising at least one option for user-selection to access the second media content for presentation by the display device, and modify priority of the first media content, and the second media content, in response to receiving an indication of selection of the at least one option.
