Abstract

A method for receiving a PDCH is provided. The method comprises: receiving, by a UE, information identifying a plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power in a resource block containing the PDCH; receiving, by the UE, a first DMRS on a first DMRS port transmitted from a first cell; and receiving, by the UE, the PDCH that is transmitted on the first DMRS port.

Claims

1. A method for receiving a physical downlink channel (PDCH), the method comprising:

receiving, by a user equipment (UE), information identifying a plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power in a resource block containing the PDCH;

receiving, by the UE, a first demodulation reference signal (DMRS) on a first DMRS port transmitted from a first cell; and

receiving, by the UE, the PDCH that is transmitted on the first DMRS port.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power occupy a subset of resource elements occupied by a second DMRS.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power are present in each subframe when the PDCH is transmitted to the UE.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power comprise those which cannot be occupied by any DMRS associated with the PDCH.

The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resource elements comprises resource elements that are not used by the UE to receive at least one of a cell-specific reference signal, a channel state information reference signal, a physical broadcast channel, a primary synchronization signal, or a secondary synchronization signal.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the PDCH is a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH).

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the PDCH is an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH).

8. The method of claim 1, wherein forward error correction bits of the PDCH that map to the plurality of resource elements are not transmitted.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the PDCH is rate matched assuming that the plurality of resource elements are not available for PDCH transmission.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein a capability indicator is defined for the UE, the capability indicator indicating at least one of:

a number of receive antennas the UE has;

a number of transmission layers the UE can process, part of which are desired transmission layers and another part of which are interfering layers that the UE is capable of mitigating;

or

a capability for the UE to mitigate interference from a second cell that is different from the first cell and to support signaling that identifies the plurality of resource elements.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the UE receives signaling configuring the UE to receive the PDCH with the plurality of resource elements as reserved interference measurement resource elements.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the UE measures interference using the plurality of resource elements and uses the measurement of interference to estimate interference on the PDCH.

13. A method for transmitting a physical downlink channel (PDCH), the method comprising:

transmitting, by a network element, information identifying a plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power in a resource block containing the PDCH;

transmitting, by the network element, a first demodulation reference signal (DMRS) on a first DMRS port transmitted from a first cell; and

transmitting, by the network element, the PDCH on the first DMRS port.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power occupy a subset of resource elements occupied by a second DMRS.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power are present in each subframe when the PDCH is transmitted to the UE.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power comprise those which cannot be occupied by any DMRS associated with the PDCH.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of resource elements comprises resource elements that are not used to transmit at least one of a cell-specific reference signal, a channel state information reference signal, a physical broadcast channel, a primary synchronization signal, or a secondary synchronization signal.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the PDCH is a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH).

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the PDCH is an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH).

20. The method of claim 13, wherein forward error correction bits of the PDCH that map to the plurality of resource elements are not transmitted.

21. The method of claim 13, wherein the PDCH is rate matched assuming that the plurality of resource elements are not available for PDCH transmission.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein a capability indicator is received from a user equipment (UE), the capability indicator indicating at least one of:

a number of receive antennas the UE has;

a number of transmission layers the UE can process, part of which are desired transmission layers and another part of which are interfering layers that the UE is capable of mitigating;

or

a capability for the UE to mitigate interference from a second cell that is different from the first cell and to support signaling that identifies the plurality of resource elements.

23. The method of claim 13, further comprising transmitting signaling configuring a user equipment to receive the PDCH with the plurality of resource elements as reserved interference measurement resource elements.

24. A user equipment (UE) comprising:

a processor configured such that the UE receives information identifying a plurality of resource elements that are transmitted with zero power in a resource block containing a physical downlink channel (PDCH), further configured such that the UE receives a first demodulation reference signal (DMRS) on a first DMRS port transmitted from a first cell, and further configured such that the UE receives the PDCH that is transmitted on the first DMRS port.
