Abstract

Navigation systems that enhance driver awareness are provided. Information associated with a location of a vehicle may be determined. Based at least in part upon the determined location, awareness information associated with the vehicle may be collected. The awareness information may include at least one of crime information, accident information, legal information, or future traffic information. Based at least in part upon the collected awareness information, output information may be generated for presentation, and the generated output information may be output.

Claims

1. At least one computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, configure the at least one processor to:

determine information associated with a location of a vehicle;

collect, based at least in part upon the determined location, awareness information associated with the vehicle, the awareness information comprising at least one of (i) crime information, (ii) accident information, (iii) legal information, or (iv) future traffic information;

generate, based at least in part upon the collected awareness information, output information for presentation; and

direct output of the generated output information.

2. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the awareness information comprises crime information collected from at least one of (i) a police system, (ii) a blog, (iii) a civilian report, or (iv) a message board.

3. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the awareness information comprises crime information, and wherein the computer-executable instructions further configure the at least one processor to track, based at least in part upon the crime information, a location of criminal activity.

4. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the awareness information comprises vehicle accident information, and wherein the computer-executable instructions further configure the at least one processor to determine, based at least in part upon the vehicle accident information, an accident likelihood.

5. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the awareness information comprises legal information, the legal information comprising at least one of (i) a driving regulation, (ii) information associated with an item required to be maintained within the vehicle, or (iii) directions associated with road indicators.

6. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the generated output information comprises at least one of (i) one or more icons for display, (ii) an audio message, or (iii) a message for communication to a user device.

7. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the computer-executable instructions further configure the at least one processor to:

determine, based at least in part upon the awareness information, an awareness level,

wherein the generated output information comprises an indication of the determined awareness level.

8. A computer-implemented method comprising:

determining, by a navigation system comprising one or more computer processors, information associated with a location of a vehicle;

collecting, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the determined location, awareness information associated with the vehicle, the awareness information comprising at least one of (i) crime information, (ii) accident information, (iii) legal information, or (iv) future traffic information;

generating, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the collected awareness information, output information for presentation; and

outputting, by the navigation system, the generated output information.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein collecting awareness information comprises collecting awareness information from one or more external data sources.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein collecting awareness information comprises collecting crime information from at least one of (i) a police system, (ii) a blog, (iii) a civilian report, or (iv) a message board.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the awareness information comprises crime information, and further comprising:

tracking, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the crime information, a location of criminal activity.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein collecting awareness information comprises collecting vehicle accident information, and further comprising:

determining, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the vehicle accident information, an accident likelihood.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein collecting awareness information comprises collecting legal information, the legal information comprising at least one of (i) a driving regulation, (ii) information associated with an item required to be maintained within the vehicle, or (iii) directions associated with road indicators.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein collecting awareness information comprises collecting future traffic information based on at least one of (i) a day, (ii) a time of day, (iii) information associated with an expected event, or (iv) information associated with a planned event.

15. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

collecting, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the determined location, information associated with the cost of travel,

wherein generating output information comprises generating output information associated with the cost of travel.

16. The method of claim 8, wherein generating output information comprises generating at least one of (i) one or more icons for display, (ii) an audio message, or (iii) a message for communication to a user device.

17. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

determining, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the awareness information, an awareness level,

wherein generating output information comprises generating an indication of the determined awareness level.

18. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

identifying, by the navigation system, one or more vehicle parameters,

wherein generating output information comprises generating output information based at least in part upon the identified one or more vehicle parameters.

19. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

determining, by the navigation system based at least in part upon the awareness information, a route for the vehicle.

20. A system comprising;

at least one memory configured to store computer-executable instructions; and

at least one processor configured to access the at least one memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to;

determine information associated with a location of a vehicle;

collect, based at least in part upon the determined location, awareness information associated with the vehicle, the awareness information comprising at least one of (i) crime information, (ii) accident information, (iii) legal information, or (iv) future traffic information;

generate, based at least in part upon the collected awareness information, output information for presentation; and

direct output of the generated output information.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information is received from one or more external data sources.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information comprises crime information collected from at least one of (i) a police system, (ii) a blog, (iii) a civilian report, or (iv) a message board.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information comprises crime information, and wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to track, based at least in part upon the crime information, a location of criminal activity.

24. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information comprises vehicle accident information, and wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to determine, based at least in part upon the vehicle accident information, an accident likelihood.

25. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information comprises legal information, the legal information comprising at least one of (i) a driving regulation, (ii) information associated with an item required to be maintained within the vehicle, or (iii) directions associated with road indicators.

26. The system of claim 20, wherein the awareness information comprises future traffic information based on at least one of (i) a day, (ii) a time of day, (iii) information associated with an expected event, or (iv) information associated with a planned event.

27. The system of claim 20, wherein the generated output information comprises at least one of (i) one or more icons for display, (ii) an audio message, or (iii) a message for communication to a user device.

28. The system of claim 20, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

determine, based at least in part upon the awareness information, an awareness level,

wherein the generated output information comprises an indication of the determined awareness level.

29. The system of claim 20, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

identify one or more vehicle parameters; and

generate the output information based at least in part upon the identified one or more vehicle parameters.

30. The system of claim 20, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

determine, based at least in part upon the awareness information, a route for the vehicle.
