Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method whereby a user is provided with a gesture for e.g. editing work on a touch sensing device. By using two objects, e.g. two fingers, on a touch surface of the touch sensing device the user may zoom in or zoom out of a graphical element, halt the zooming, and thereafter crop the graphical element to define a new cropped element of the graphical element. The method makes use of a distance between the two objects, which is determined and monitored. The disclosure also relates to a gesture interpretation unit and to a touch sensing device.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving touch input data indicating touch inputs on a touch surface of a touch sensing device, and determining from said touch input data;

a first touch input from a first object at a first position on the touch surface, and

a second touch input from a second object at a second position on the touch surface and while continuous contact of said first and second objects with the touch surface is maintained;

determining from said touch input data a distance d₁ between the first and second objects, and increasing the size of a first area of a graphical element visible via the touch surface if the distance increases, and decreasing the size of the first area of graphical element if the distance decreases;

determining from said touch input data that an increased pressure compared to a threshold of at least one of the first and second touch inputs has occurred, and thereby;

halting the increasing or the decreasing the size of the first area of the graphical element; and

determining a distance d₂ between the first and second objects;

determining from said touch input data that the distance between the first and second objects has decreased compared to the distance d₂, and

cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the decrease of the distance, whereby a cropped element of the graphical element is defined.

The method according to claim 1, comprising cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the attained decreased distance upon determining from said touch input data that an increased pressure compared to a threshold of at least one of the first and second touch inputs has occurred.

3. The method according to claim 1, comprising cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the attained decreased distance upon determining from said touch input data that at least one of the first and second objects is not present anymore on the touch surface.

4. The method according to claim 1, comprising continuously cropping the first area of the graphical element in accordance with the decreased distance.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein increasing or decreasing the size comprises increasing or decreasing the size of the first area to a size based on the distance between the first and second objects.

6. The method according to claim 1, comprising visually indicating the first area.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein visually indicating the first area comprises visually presenting the first area of the graphical element in relation to the cropped element of the graphical element.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein said touch input data comprises positioning data x_nt, y_nt for the first and second touch input.

9. A computer readable storage medium comprising computer programming instructions which, when executed on a processor, are configured to carry out the method of claim 1.

10. A gesture interpretation unit comprising a processor configured to receive a touch signal s_x comprising touch input data indicating touch inputs on a touch surface of a touch sensing device, the gesture interpretation unit further comprising a computer readable storage medium storing instructions operable to cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

determining from said touch input data;

a first touch input from a first object at a first position on the touch surface, and

a second touch input from a second object at a second position on the touch surface; and

while continuous contact of said first and second objects with the touch surface is maintained;

determining from said touch input data a distance d₁ between the first and second objects, generating a first signal for increasing the size of a first area of a graphical element visible via the touch surface if the distance increases, and generating a second signal for decreasing the size of the first area of the graphical element if the distance decreases;

determining from said touch input data that an increased pressure compared to a threshold of at least one of the first and second touch inputs has occurred, and thereby;

halting generating any of the first and the second signal for increasing and decreasing the size of the first area of the graphical element, respectively;

determining a distance d₂ between the first and second objects;

determining from said touch input data that the distance between the first and second objects has decreased compared to the distance d₂, and

cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the decrease of the distance, whereby a cropped element of the graphical element is defined.

The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the attained decreased distance upon determining from said touch input data that an increased pressure compared to a threshold of at least one of the first and second touch inputs has occurred.

12. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for cropping the first area of the graphical element in relation to the attained decreased distance upon determining from said touch input data that at least one of the first and second objects is not present anymore on the touch surface.

13. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for continuously cropping the first area of the graphical element in accordance with the decreased distance.

14. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for generating the first signal for increasing the size of the first area to a size defined by the positions of the first and second objects.

15. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for -generating the second signal for decreasing the size of the first area to a size defined by the positions of the first and second objects.

16. The unit according to claim 10, wherein the touch input data comprises positioning data x_nt, y_nt for the first and second touch inputs.

17. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for visually indicating the first area.

18. The unit according to claim 17, comprising instructions for visually presenting the first area in relation to the cropped element of the graphical element on the touch surface.

19. The unit according to claim 10, comprising instructions for generating a signal for visually presenting the cropped element on the touch surface.

20. The unit according to claim 10, wherein the touch sensing device is a Frustrated Total Internal Reflection, FTIR, -based touch sensing device.

21. A touch sensing device comprising

a touch surface;

a touch control unit configured to determine touch input data from touch input on said touch surface, and generate a touch signal s_x indicating the touch input data; and

a gesture interpretation unit according to claim 10, wherein the gesture interpretation unit is configured to receive said touch signal s_x.
